    Hi,

I'd like to have a shorter throttle travel on my race bike. What parts do I need to do that ?

2006+ R6. you'll need a dremmel to shave off part of the plastic inside to fit your Suzuki throttle assembly.
they were $31 at the dealership last time i checked.

Cam size varies from bike to bike depending on throttle body (or carb) linkage. You could have two bikes, both 1/5th turn, with compatible tubes... but put one of those 1/5th turn throttle tube on the other bike and it could make that bike 1/8th turn.

I've run a couple of R6 tubes on my 2nd gen SV. I ended up going back to stock because the R6 tubes are too "fragile"... they don't quite fit right and the closed throttle stop doesn't catch on the outer housing very well. It can be accidentally forced past the closed throttle stop and it'll damage the cam, making it more susceptible to going past the closed throttle stop.

I had to modify both of them beyond what's outlined in the article above and even then they weren't reliable.

If I go back to the R6 tube I'll modify the outer cam housing to help prevent this, but right now I'm running the stock tube & not having any problems. (It should be noted that I've broken my wrist, reducing overall range of movement and I can still get by).

For these guys that keep saying 1/4 turn, that means 25% rotation. A 1/5 turn (05 R1) would be 20% rotation. 1/6 and 1/8 would obviously be shorter & I don't feel like doing the math right now.

The point Pete is getting at is that the "throttle" itself isn't rated in "turn" it's rated in a rate. Amount of degrees per unit length of pull. You need to figure out the entire length of pull and then select the proper rate for the amount of turn you want.

    Read http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/...throttle_kits/ for information.

Taking a throttle off of one bike will only work the same if the total amount of pull necessary for that bike is the same.

To put it in simpler terms,
    1/4 turn means 90* rotation.
    1/5 turn means 72* rotation.
    1/6 turn means 60* rotation.

Think the R6 tube (that ended up having the issue of going past the closed throttle stop) that I modified before ditching it was like an 1/8th turn (45* rotation). Loved it but it was like a lightswitch and NOT for everyone. Had to have very fine throttle control.

I have one of the 1/5 turn R6 throttles and I didnt modify it for my 2nd gen. That website is partially incorrect, 2nd Gen N and S models do have different throttle housings and cables. Not sure about the actual throttle tubes themselves.

I agree. I had a short turn setup (R6, I think) on mine when I got it. In some sort of twist of irony the throttle housing was destroyed after I high-sided in the rain. Decided to replace with stock until I figured out how to ride a gosh darned sport bike. Definitely not for those of us used to hamfisting that throttle.

I've actually grown to like the travel on the stock setup. I can get from stop to stop without changing my grip.

I lust over the adjustable motion pro setup. I'd like to go somewhere between stock and "light switch".

You may want to double check to make sure you're actually getting to WFO. It fit and worked fine on my bike without modification but would not get to 100% full throttle. Didn't I see somewhere recently that you only got 108mph or something at NYST?

I did this prior to adding flatslides and a Motion Pro setup and it definitely helped, as Oxx mentioned.

Hmmm you are correct, I should probably confirm it will go WOT. How would I know if it is not opening all the way?
