    RC51 fork seal failure

My 05 RC started leaking fork oil on the left side tonight on my way to the shop. It pisses me off because it only has 15,000 miles on it and im not a wheelie guy and try to avoid big bumps. So I am going to get some seals and have a good friend of mine do them. Is it common for these to fail at such little miles my last rc had 40,000 miles on it and never had fork seals done

I've pulled it up a few times over the crest of a hill type thing but never clutched it up or anything like that

Realize that it is entirely possible that the seal went because it somehow, other than wheelying, got damaged. It is just as, if not more, likely that some road debris attached itself to your fork leg and the next time you hit a bump the seal slid over it and nicked the seal causing the leak.

When you replace the seal ensure that you check the fork leg for any nicks, scratches, attached road debris you can feel and clean them up otherwise you'll just being doing the seal again not long down the road.

    This.

Not to mention it's an 05. That seal was 8 years old minimum.

    This again.

Relax... it's a fork seal, not a crank bearing.

OEM seals from the factory. Regardless of mileage, I'd replace the seals and oil in a street only bike every 3 years.

Track bikes get done at least once a year.

Make sure andwatch some you tube videos on how to do it... You don't want to do it twice... You might need to make a tool to do it...be careful!
