    Rear Stand Use Question

Traditionally, Ive always kept my bike on its side stand year round...but during long(er) breaks...like winter, Ive now decided to keep her raised up on my Pit Bull rear stand instead, especially to avoid having more gas settle into my #1 carb, etc. My question is...is this ok to do? Will the forks get compressed more than they should be for an extended time and thus possibly harm the seals, springs, etc.?

    Re: Rear Stand Use Question

i bought front and rear pitbulls to raise my bike up for winter storage lat season. dont think the rear would even do anything to the front forks. maybe the front fork lift stands, but i still doubt they would be harmful to the forks for extended periods

    Re: Rear Stand Use Question

You should get a front stand too. It's better to have the bike totally off the ground during the winter to avoid developing flat spots on your tires. You could either get a fork stand or a triple tree stand(I have this one). That way the forks are fully extended as well.

I normally park the tires over a slab of 1" thick closed cell foam material to keep the contact patches off the freezing cold garage floor, which I'll still do to the front tire should I use the rear stand. For right now, I dont have the $$ for a front stand (no job=no $$. lol) Like the other guys posted, for now I'll just have to stick with the rear and hope the forks hold up under the prolonged weight transfer. They should be ok...riding year round gives 'em a break every now and then.

The old pitbull rear stands used to have that annoying habit of changing the force of the earth's gravity, the new ones have that problem fixed now.

    In a word, no. LOL

think of all the track/race bikes that get ridden much less than your street bike. most of them are on rear stands only. you'll be fine

I've kept my SV on a rear stand every winter thus far. No issues yet.

The first year I had it, I didn't have a front stand, so in order to prevent flat spots. I put the front tire on about 4 layers of corrugated cardboard.

That's how Annalisa's bike is going up this year.

Flat spots? I didn't know you guys were still running poly-glass tires

I've never gotten flat spots on any modern tire, regardless of how long it sat.

Actually, its nylon carcasses that used to flatspot...not the ole fiberglass belts.
