    Resting voltage LiFeP04 battery

Last year my Tiger 1050 killed a battery. I replaced it with a Deltran LiFeP04 battery. This battery cranks the notoriously hard-to-crank 1050 well, but also went flat after a couple of days.

Started trouble shooting and found out several of the accessories I'd installed were connected (through a Denali Hub) to be connected full-time. I changed them so they are only on when the key is on.

Wanted to check I'd eliminated or reduced any parasitic draw. Started checking the battery voltage periodically. It seems to be holding steady at 13.15 volts through five hours. One source says it should be 13.3.

Does that constitute full charge? I can't seem to find resting voltage for this type of battery: just conventional and AGM.

Checking voltage won't tell you if you've eliminated the parasitic draw, you need to measure current.

A couple of days sitting, or a couple of days riding? Triumphs are notorious for both problems.

Couple days sitting. There was some parasitic draw previously but it seems to be drawing down the battery much faster than previously.

I want to go to the Frosty Nutz rally in VT later in the month, when low overnight temps are common, so now I'll start isolating circuits to see where those missing electrons are hiding. May go back to an AGM battery as that's another variable.

Everything seems normal when riding, knock wood.

What is the milliamp draw when the key is in the off position? (you might want to wait a few minutes in case there are any electronics which intentionally stay on for a short bit)

I'll check it this afternoon. Had to recharge battery.

At the negative terminal it is only showing 3mA.

Light dawned over Marblehead when I realized I could remove each fuse in the Denali to isolate each circuit. Again, 3mA. Starting to think this is a battery problem. Think I'll go back to a Yuasa AGM. I can use this one in the WR250.

3mA should take months to kill a good battery.

What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.

    Re: Resting voltage LiFeP04 battery

    @3mA, don't have parasitic draw.

LiFe batteries are notorious for having less reserve capacity than rated. Also going to find out what the charged voltage should be: I've been using a Battery Tender Jr. and max voltage seems to be 13,3V. Might need a charger with higher voltage output.

    Ordered an OEM spec AGM.

My Shorai was better than OEM on my Triumph. Just have to respect the behavior of these things in the cold. Turn on headlights or something for a minute before cranking. It fired the bike much stronger than OEM.

What model Triumph and what model Shorai?

My Battery Tender brand may still be on warranty.

Daytona 675, and I don't know the model Shorai, but the higher end unit for sure. I liked it enough to put it in my KTM, and I may also get one for my duc.

So in the meantime I got my original question answered. There are four cells of 3.3 volts each, so 13.2V is the standard output.

Well that was easy. Contacted DelTran and they said, "Send it back and we will replace it."
