Pulling the tank will give you all the access you need and the carbs will have enough fuel within to idle for quite a long time.

I like the vacuum leak concept. There are some bolts just under each carb that are used for synchronizing the carbs. Maybe one fell out.

yeah the book says 90+octane. speaking of witch the tank is full so i'll have to ride it around and burn some off to make removing the tank easier.

i'd have to buy a siphon or get a hose to do it. i have a gas can. i much rather ride it even if its not at 100%

check the bowl on the carbs because if the gas sat in them over the winter then you mite be sucking up some gunk that will not pass threw the jets, so it goes back in to the bowl.

hows about i just spray an entire can of carb clean into the carbs i am not pulling the carbs myself. i'll do what i'm comfortable doing and thats it. hopfully i can get it done and running right without taking apart half the bike

or disconnect the fuel line to the carbs, put that in your gas can, turn the petcock on and fire up the engine to create vaccume & open the petcock (assuming it's a vaccume petcock)... or instead of firing up the engine you could remove the vaccume line, get a pair of lock-grips, suck on the hose & clamp it shut to keep the low pressure inside.

buy or download a manual...it is not as hard as you think...and it is the right way..you will have to go in there eventually

i have the haynes book for it. i plan on going as far as pulling the carbs if i have to. i was going to start on it today but now i have a f#*king chest cold and feel like shit...

that sucks. just remember to do things slowly and methodically and you'll be fine pullin the carbs. The first time is intimidating but its really not that big of a deal. just clean out the bowls and the jets and inspect the rest of the inards for any foreign debris..

yeah i fixed it sort of. i pulled the tank to check the air filter assembly and wouldn't you know it black and clogged as hell. some nice dead bugs too. i put a new uni in and blew out the air filter for the ram air. i put it back together and it runs alot better but not perfect. i havn't had the time or weather to take it for a long test ride yet to see if i need to mess with the carbs. so much for the dealer going through it brfore it bought it....

more good news. after my quick test ride i found oil all over the front wheel. the friggen right fork seal is leaking. i'm taking it to the dealer to let them fix that.

thanks for your advice. i made a copy of your carb cleaning trick for use someday.
