Anyone ever shortened their exhaust canister?

Just wondering if this is difficult and if anyone has done this? I like the look and I just got a 2 bros full exhaust to replace the V&H slip on I have now, but the canister has some scratches at the bottom and I'd like to shorten it if it's not too much work.

If anyone knows how to do this or knows someone that can do it please let me know. I don't suppose it would be too difficult... I just don't have the tools or knowledge of how to do it. I remember seeing a video on youtube on how to do it but I can't find it now.

Also if you DON'T think it's a good idea, I want to know why...

All of the HAWKS in T1a have chopped them. It's easy.
Things you need:
Rivits & rivit gun
Drill
hack saw
Grinder
exhaust packing

Drill out the rivits. Cut the outer can to the length you want. Grind smooth. Cut the inner tube by the same amount you just cut off of the can. Repack exhust. Place can on end caps. Drill holes in the can for the rivits. Rivit assembily. Put back on the bike.

I wouldn't be so quick to chop an aftermarket pipe. Chopping a pipe isn't necessarily all that difficult, but then again, stock pipes are usually not made of any special materials. If you have a 2 bros, is it carbon fiber? That might not cut as easily or cleanly as you think with a hack saw. Titanium? You better get a haaaarrrrrdddd ass cutting blade... Of course I'm not telling you that you can't do it or shouldn't do it, just be mindful that it's an aftermarket pipe and is most likely made with more expensive materials that may not like to be cut. On that note, I might chop my stock cans on my R1 and put race baffles in it, so good luck to you!

yea i've done it....it aint hard....follow Gino's instructions and its easy as hell....maybe an hour's work.

A simple way to mark a straight line - wrap masking or painters tape around it. If there aren't any wrinkles and it lines up - it's a clean straight line to use as a cutting guide.

Also on the Yosh web site there is a vid on how to re-pack the can may give you some insight on how to do it but its not that hard...

I used a piece of legal paper. Just wrap it around and connect the edge and tape the paper. Perfect line is set. Then take a sharpie and 1/2 on the paper and 1/2 on the can. Or you can spray paint it. Just make sure it is the end you are cutting off that gets painted.

I was talking to a bike mechanic about that. He said that this will result in a loss in power. At the top end I believe. Not a ton but noticable. His reccomendation was to shorten the pipe a bit then go with a high mount exhaust to replace some of the length. Im not sure if its just a back pressure issue or if you can just re map the PC to correct for the loss in power. Might wanna ask around a bit more.

I put the baffles in the stock cans of the 04 R1 I had. It was easy as pie and sounded awesome...nice deap tone while keeping the sound level reasonable. The thought has been crossing my mind to do it to my 06 R1

It's not that hard, it just takes time to do it right. I ended up getting rid of my chopped canister because it was too damn loud. Then again, the can was only 6" long when I was done with it, maybe 7.
