Go to Sears or any hardware/automotive store. Snap ring pliers are cheap money and essential if you need a pair as you can see.

It'll cost more in gas to have someone meet up with the pliers, than to just pick up a set at a store.

FYI, he's referring to Cambridge, MA. Not Cambridge, NH.

Thanks guys. Wasn't much about the tool. I needed help with the process. Wordtooyomomma was going to help me but I got caught up with something else

Thanks everyone. Was doing this to recover from a Lowside. But it looks like there is more damage such as bent handlebars / forks.

So, I might have to wait for a while to get my bike fixed. In the meantime, I did some research and found out that if the front forks are tweaked and not bent, loosening the front fork upper clamp bolts might fix it.

Is it worth trying this with my complete novice non-existent skills + without a front stand so I can have a bike to commute to work on until I can get it fixed?

You can't effectively race a bike with tweaked front end but as long as it's not too severe there's no reason you can't ride it.

Usually the triples twist, not the forks themselves. They are softer than the forks by design.

If it's semi-bad they can usually be bent back, GMD can do it for you.

Is it a inner or outer snap ring? It makes a difference on the snap ring pliers you buy. No, not like a left-handed monkey wrench either. I have both types over here in "THIS" area with at least four different tip sizes too.

Thanks. Unfortunately that is no longer the (only) problem. I might have bent forks/handlebars that need to be fixed. I did replace the lever but the tool I bought from Autozone sucked. And the clip seems a little flimsy. So there is a general bad feeling surrounding the current state of my bike.

like i said you can commute on a lightly twisted front end or twisted handlebar... you're not racing it.

As long as the ring is in there snug & not wobbling in the grove it should be fine. Have Peter Kates at GMD check out you forks/handlebars better being safe than sorry.
