How do you get out a snapped bolt ?

I apparently tightened a bolt that held in the oil filter too tightly on my dirtbike and it snapped in half, how do I get it out?

    Thanks.

    Blood, sweat, tears lol

on a more serious note easy outs work well. its basically a drill bit but with a left hand angle claw at the end that grabs and pulls out the rest of the bolt

but sometimes that dont work and u might need to drill and tap the bitch

This sucker is buried deep, do you still recommend an EZ out? This is something I can't afford to screw up as its attached to the motor and stripped the threads on this will really fck my life up, might just give it to the mechanic down the street and give him like $0 to take it out

    spray in PB (penetrating blaster)

I found this in an Auto Shop such as Pep Boyz

    Then use the EZ out.

If this does not work, then drill it out and rethread the hole for a new bolt.

If you do not have those tools on hand, then paying someone who does may be cheaper than purchasing these tools for your own use. If you plan to shear the heads off of lots more bolts, then get the tools and learn to do it on your own.

If there is a way to dremel a slot in the remaining piece - try that first with a straight blade screwdriver.

If not, or if that doesn't work - Ez Outs have never failed me.

You want to use the biggest one that will grip without touching the threads.

Drill a hole that will let the EZ out go in as much as possible, while still leaving enough meat for it to bite into.

Definitely soak it in pb and walk away before you try anything. Repeat, and then do as Tony says. Make sure you use a nice sharp punch before you start drilling.
The pb soaking and the vibes from drilling should loosen it up. You may even see the bolt spin with the drill till it bottoms out. Keep going, just don't drill through the bolt and what's now behind it.
    Patience is key.

Real Dirt Bikes do not have oil filters.
Center punch the broken bolt as best you can, drill with a very small bit, and only go as deep as you have to. Try not to let the bit walk to the edge of the stud. Gently heat around the bolt with a propane torch if the stud does not budge with an EZ-Out. Usually, the drilling generates enough heat to let the stud back out easily.

Drill exactly in the center!. Use a good punch to get get the bit started in the center. I tend to have my buddy extract bolts in vital stuff for me because I do not have the patience for it.

I have never had luck with eazy outs so now I bring it to someone to take them out. How hard did you think you had to put that bolt in superman?

Drill the bolt dead center, a good size hole,......then hammer in a slightly bigger TORX bit
and back out the busted stud/bolt

Cost one messed up Torx bit maybe !

Has worked great for me in the past

This & left handed drill bits . They work in reverse. Sometimes they will catch the bolt & spin it right out .
