    Spare tanks

I have been looking for a cheap, damaged tank to use at the track. There seems to be two ways to do this-

    1. Buy spare tank, swap out current pump and cap to "new" tank. Shiny original tank sits on the shelf until I sell the bike.

    2. Buy spare tank, pump, cap, hinge. Swap shiny tank on and off for street use.

If I go with option 1, do I need to worry about rust in the unused tank? It would be sitting on the shelf with nothing in it for a long time.

I have a lead on all of the parts, option 1 would be $60+shipping, option 2 would be $200+shipping.

Thoughts? There must be racers who keep spare tanks around

If you're going to store a tank, I'd clean it as best you can after making sure it's rust free. I like isopropyl alcohol as a final solvent wash as it drags water out along with it when you dump. Spray bomb the interior with WD40, then seal it up and it should be fine.

I went with option 1 on the Hawk. Why I still have the stock tank sitting around I'm not sure except that it's in really good shape and worth a fistfull of cash. It'll make for a backup in a pinch I guess.

Like Kurlon said, storage needs to be considered. I fogged mine.
