    Bearing Removal.

I am having one hell of a hard time getting some damned bearings out of a wheel hub!!! I tried brute force, brute impact, diffrerent oils and solvents and heat.
obviously, i cant get directly behind the bearings to knock them out directly.

any other ideas on how to get the damn things out?

Usually the sleeve/spacer between the bearings is designed to tip from centerline frome one side of the wheel (insert a drift or punch smaller than axle about half way thru, then try to move sleeve). This allows you to use a punch to drive out one of the bearings. After you get the first out, then remove spacer, second bearing is now exposed on backside.

    1) i do have new bearings to install.

2)The big problem... i think i just dont have the right tool for the job. is there such a thing as a "bearing puller"?

i can get one of the bearings to move about 1/4" almost allowing me to move the spacer back a tiny bit so i can *almost* catch the edge of the axle on it. i dont have anything else that can get in there. i tried a screw driver and bent the damn thing. i have some bent tip needle nose pliers, which i also bent, further than they are supposed to be... grrr.
i just dont have anything that can get behind the bastards.

i am close to getting the drill out with a 1/16" bit and making swiss cheese of the outer ring of the bearing on one end. then i will be able to get behind the other one and drive it out.

They do make bearing pullers but they need to get behind the bearing as well. Get a long punch and tap the bearing out from the other side turning the wheel after every TAP, dont slam it cause it will just jam, you think its tight now....hahahaha. If ya need a hand let me know.

    based on the puller idea...

    i gotsk it!!!!!!

took this thing i have, think its a flywheel puller, but i have never pulled a fly wheel so i dont know for certain.
anyways, i latched it around the wheel hub and tightened it down til the center part violated that bearing in a bad way...

    this is good,

then i backed it out, but had the hub jammed in my vise and the arm of the puller down against the workbench, so the center bolt thing was jammed into the core of the bearing....

    and the bearing LOST!!!!!!

YEE HAAA!!!! That much closer to having this damn thing running.

    thanks for the advice guys.

the next project is to figure out how the throttle cable connects to the top of the carb... its a little different than any motorcycle throttle i have seen. i am thinking of getting a nice little mikuni carb for this bitch and getting rid of the stock carb entirely.
