    Need new sport/touring tires

Can anyone recommend a sport touring tire that has good grip in the corners, but won't leave a flat strip in the middle? I've got a Z1000 that I try to get aggressive on, but most of the twisty roads I ride on require me to ride long straights to get to, and I occasionally ride to work and back on straight, long boring roads.

I've been leaning towards the Pilot Road 2, anyone have any comments on them? Any other suggestions would be appreciated too.

I run Pilot Powers and LOVE THEM.....I would skip the Roads and move up to Powers. They will wear a bit faster but the corner grip is Killer and they are good in the rain also.

Any special reason you want roads???

12.8 is a respectable time for the street also.....nice work

I've been running Pirelli Diablo Strada's and absolutely
    love them.

I have about 8k on them and am hoping to get through
the rest of the season with them.

    Bergs here also has them.

I like the Dunlop Road Smarts I installed. They stick well, don't flat spot form slab riding, wear like iron, and don't cost much.

everyone laughs at me.. but I've turned a couple of guys on there onto them... Dunlop D616's corner like a m'fer, and have some serious tred on them. Designed for the wet track & sport touring, I'm doing about 3k miles/month so far this year and great luck with them so far!

I dunno, I just need a sport touring tire that I can still rip it with, but I want more life out of them than Pilot Powers will give. I figured the Roads would be a good choice, but they're pretty expensive. Cheapest I can get them right now is about $320 for the tires online, and $90 extra installed. $400 for tires is pretty hefty...

Huh, never even heard of those. They look like dual sport tires. They really stick though? No Joke?

no lie... they get down nice and low.. have over 1000 miles on this set already.

I do commute 300 miles a week on top of close to 700 miles of cruising/ripping each week so they fit my needs well. I've taken them down HMR, Mohawk, Taconic, through some trails in VT an a couple crazy rain storms and they handle like an absolute pro!

I have two tires that are a steal at $120. Not a sport touring tire, but I know you would get at least 4k miles on them.

Dragon Supercorsa's in 120 and 180, not sure if the z is a 190 rear but if you are interested, check out my for sale thread. You could get 2 tires for less than the price of 1.

I have been riding on Conti sport attacks now for about 5000 miles. Still no flat spot with a lot of highway runs. The grip is very good, but they hate tar snakes. Aside from that it looks like I can get close to 10k out of them from current wear.
I traded up from Dunlop qualifiers and have been much happier with the grip.

I can't find it anymore but there used to be tread depth charts

the "road" tires cam with 1/3 more tread than sport

My buddy ran a set of these and loved them.

I like Dunlop Qualifiers, had five sets of Pilot Powers before I switched over to them.

I've tried several tires over the years and decided that overall Avons are the best tire to suit my needs , probably cause of their unique VBD (variable belt density) design rather than the dual compounds that other manufacturers use, same rubber all the way across the profile, but because the belts are denser toward the center, the rubber doesn't wear as fast in the center

when comparing new tires, I don't feel that the Avons are the best, but over the life of the tire, the Avons have been more consistent for me, not loosing performance as they wear like other tires

everybody rides different, that's what works for me

The Avon's have been a hair better in the rain and have gotten slightly better mileage, but the Pirelli's are a little softer and grip the dry pavement a lot better. Its almost 6 of one half dozen of the other.

I've also run the qualifiers, and they were great as well. Dunlops catch a lot of crap, but honestly for the commuter/ripper and not afraid to ride in the rainer they are by far the #1 tire for me!!! Beats the 3500 miles i got out of my Pilot Powers.

Whatever you do, don't trust the stealership to recommend tires to you.. they have no clue as to what you need, only what pays they a higher kick back!

I ran a set of Avon Azaros 13K.

The Storms are supposed to be better.

Hmm still not getting any feedback on Pilot Roads.

I should have made a poll.

    Hands down the Pirelli Stradas.

As far as DOT's are concerned they offer excellent performance ranging in many conditions...warm, cold, wet, some old logging trail deep in the woods somewhere in NH.

I've tested "a set or two" over the years came back so impressed with their overall performance that I'm looking to purchase a pair to use as intermediates for those wet/dry/wet/dry/wet/dry weather-type race weekends.....yes, that's how much faith I have in those hoops.

Good to hear this we just put a set on Annalisa's F3 a couple of months back. Should last her a while, since doesn't ride that much.

    Re: Need new sport/touring tires

I've got Pilot Road 2's on the 675 right now.

Used them for the 3000 miles to the Indy GP and back including Deals gap and the blue ridge parkway. Also the final day of the ride was solid highway from VA to NH to get back in time

They have very little flat spot, tires worn to the edges at the gap (but, I rode it like a grandma) with no problems. They also were great in the wet. I don't know how hard you ride on the street, but I've had no issues so far.

Tires are pretty subjective. Going to have to try a few until you get something that works for you.

    Re: Need new sport/touring tires

I've got about 600 miles on the Pilot Road 2CTs and I love 'em. Had Pilot Powers on the SV for about 5k miles, great tires but a nail ended their life early.

I'm actually getting better gas mileage w/the new tires - about 5mpg. First time I gassed up I did 51mpg - I have never seen better than 46 mpg before.

They feel just as good as the Powers in turns. Haven't ridden them in the rain yet.

The profile isn't as triangular as the powers. I felt it took a little more get them leaned, and to keep them where you wanted them in comparison.

    It's all subjective though

I like them alot and think thats what will go back on when the time comes.
