Spring wake up fail

So, I fired up my new to me triumph 675 after a long winter's nap. She fired right up, but idled a little rough. Then the CEL came on. If I try to ride it, it rev and go, but as soon as I let off the gas it dies.

I suspect water in the gas, but would that throw a cel? Also, the tank is the biggest pain in my ass ever. Is there any reasonable way to get some fuel out of this thing?

If you think it's water, is it worth a shot to try some drygas in it?
If I remember reading some of your posts, didn't you do a fair amount of work to it recently? Is it possible you may have bumped a connection, or forgot to plug something back in?

I'd pull the fuel line and jump out the pump. Let the pump do the work.

I have a cheap squeeze bulb primed syphon for draining tanks. $4 at Wally World.

Mine did the same thing after the winter with the CEL. Try to clear the code and see if that works

Try this-

Turn ignition on, Twist full throttle and turn kill switch it ON/OFF/ON/OFF/ON/OFF Just DO NOT hit the starter button anywhere in there.

That should clear the code

This may sound silly but check for mice nests and shit in the airbox. That happened to a bike I had, it was running shitty but I could keep it running by maintaining throttle... turns out there was a mouse nest in the airbox.

It had the cel and idled really poorly. I read somewhere that a CEL causes the daytona to work in "limp home mode".

My buddy cleared the cel for me, it didn't come back and it runs well now

OK, I'm thinking mouse nest as well. Thing thing is it's a sealed airbox with a cage over the intake. I still suspect the mice theory though becuase there was a towel on the bike that had been shredded up a little. Never found where that went...

Pump gas already is 10% dry gas. Adding more won't help.

Er, where'd you come up with that number? If you're referring to the Ethanol content, it's the exact polar opposite in effect to dry gas. Ethanol sucks the water in and then helps it separate out so you've got pockets of H20 in your fuel, if not a nice layer of it on the bottom of your metal tank, rusting away.

Dry gas is Iso Propyl Alcohol, it binds with the water, keeping it in solution so it can pass through your fuel system without impact, or freeze, etc.

TLDR - Ethanolated fuels need drygas MORE than ethanol free fuel.

CEL probably from a cyclinder misfire. No big deal... get that old gas out of there and see if it clears itself.

I should say that the bogging and stuff with the mice nest getting caught in the airbox/filter also did cause the bike I mentioned to throw a CEL.

So your description sounds EXACTLY like what happened to me. I vote mouse nest.

Store it with mothballs stuffed near all the openings. Keeps the critters from going in there.

Same thing with cars. Bag in the car, in the glove box, under the hood etc. Makes life much easier when they don't chew through wiring etc. ..

For the guys who have gotten rodents in the airbox, did this happen with storing the bike inside a garage? Reason I ask is I've always had my bikes stored in a garage when not in use (even during riding season) and I've never had rodents in my airbox. I usually plug up the exhaust ports with WD-40 soaked rags for peace of mind sake in the winter. Just curious to see if it's more common with storing the bike outside vs inside an attached garage.

I've never had it happen to the bike in the garage, but it happens to my mower in the shed all the time. My friend who stores his bike for the winter in his shed, mouse nest.
