Circlip/snap-ring removal: flathead or special tool?

I wish to remove the Circlip that holds the gear shift lever to the shift rod on a 2008 Suzuki SV650. See attached photo.

Is there a special tool for this or can I pop it off with a flathead/other with little fear of damaging it? (I do understand that they are cheap to replace.)

    Thanks

Thanks. You don't happen to have a vacuum bleeder as well, do you? I could swing by tonight to borrow both . . . The bleeder is more urgent; the pliers can wait until next week.

i have a MitiVac, but you should do it the manual way with clear tubing (which I also have available)

Thanks, Jim. I spent the better part of last night using standard techniques (lever pumping, bleeding, tapping, leaning, squeezing, cracking, swearing, drinking) to refill the brake-fluid system, and when I finally zip-tied the lever and went to bed, I only had about 50% brake pressure. If things don't get better tonight, the vacuum bleeder, manual or otherwise, will become last resort. However, it looks like one of the guys going to Monti has one.

ok cool. MitiVac is a good tool to start the bleeding with, but you want to use the manual way with clear tubing to catch those tiny little air pockets that might come out.

Not wanting to be rude but do you have a bleed nipple on the bar mount? Sometimes this is overlooked and air gets trapped up by the lever giving poor pressure. If you spent all night and still din't get it, something sounds wrong to me!

Not rude, appreciate the suggestion. I do have a bleed screw on the master/bar mount, and bled that in concert with the screws at the calipers. Seemed to get a solid bleed from there as well.

What happened is that my primary caliper has a frozen brake-pad retainer pin that I haven't yet been able to extract/drill (see other thread). But I received a lot of spares with the bike and so drained the front brake system, removed primary caliper, mounted a spare caliper, and tried to refresh the system. Made about 50% progress. Torque the banjo to spec. Since the spare is not leaking brake fluid around the pistons, I've assumed that my problem is a basic one: air caught somewhere, perhaps in between the reservoir and the master. Will approach it fresh tonight.

When I requested a bleeder, this morphed fully into a discussion of the 636.
