sticky shifter won't pop out of gear

After I pull lever up (or down) it stayes in that position and I physically have to bump it up or down to get back to neutral - or to shift position. Otherwise it just stays up at the point which I shifted it to.

Does not happen every time but enough to annoy and get dangerous, any ideas?

    Oh ya. 1 Gen SV

think they're call 'shift dogs', simple little spring like deal, pretty cheap part, not familiar with the bike but not all that hard to change, on any bike I've done.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

First thing's first, how's the linkage look? Everything all greased & moving freely outside the cases?

dirty linkage is cause of shift problems 90% of the time

it could be just worn out as well and binding, shift linkage and brake caliper slide pins are the most important things to keep clean on your bike and most often ignored,

fwiw, I completely replaced the shift linkage on my SV a couple times over the 135k I rode it

That happened to one of my bikes, thoroughly doused it WD40 and it's been fine since.

If you go into lubing the linkage be sure to use something that will last. Wd-40 will clean it out, but it will not leave any real oil behind.

Re: sticky shifter won't pop out of gear

is the shifter on the input shaft or are there linkage/pivot points involved?

    reading comprehension issue.. my bad.

consider marking the input shaft/linkage outer spline to same, and separating them to see if the linkage/pivot itself is the tight spot or if it is inside the case
