    Advice needed..

    Advice needed..-uf7a4779-jpg

Not sure if this picture is clear enough to describe the damage however it looks like my rearset is straight and that the metal tabs that are welded to the frame have bent a couple of degrees. Once I'm up and moving around a little bit better, I'll get a dial gauge reference from the good side and report back the delta. Although I could guess that it's 3-5 degrees off parallel.

Seems to me that may be a weak link on the frame of the Ducati.

I'm just not certain what the best resolution is:
    • Take a long pipe and gently bend the mounts back? Should I apply heat?
    • Bring the bike to Seacoast and have them weld new mounts on the frame?
    • Leave it as is and break my leg to match the new angle?

    As always, thanks for opinions!

Steel frame? Bend it back. Keep that custom peg to reduce leverage.

since it's steel, i'd try bending it first, just look for cracks in the weld after to be sure you didn't weaken it, but it doesn't look like it bent too much so I don't think you'd have an issue, i'd us a long pipe on that nub of a footpeg so you get good leverage

are the bent brackets removable? I'd see how much they cost before grabbing the BFH being a duc.. but if you do just make sure you wrap it with a rag so the hammer doesn't f-up the anno and leave scratches

    Re: Advice needed..

those taps are a common failure. Some have had the back of them boxed in. I would have this done if/when you have the motor built. I've seen another that had custom brackets made up that bolt to the frame and the pegs mount to that.

The new style Woodcraft pegs are designed to break off to help reduce this type of damage.

Some of that could be from bent bolts. Be careful taking then out.

    Re: Advice needed..

Something similar happened to a friend of mine. He had an '08 848 with Woodcraft rearsets - looks to be close to the setup you've got.

I'm not sure if his were bent worse than yours but he had Seacoast weld new frame tabs on. I've sent him an email to see how much they charged him so at least you'll know the worst case.

I'm not a master metalworker or anything, but I'd tend to agree with people here. I think they're steel so if they're not bent that bad you can probably just use the BFH to bend them back. While the metal will fatigue slightly, those tabs are unlikely to see that kind of force again unless and until the bike's on the ground again - in which case they won't be carrying your weight and saving you from falling off the bike. Just my 2 cents.

BTW - he said he talked to Eric about it and if I remember correctly, they might have tweaked the design a little bit so that the peg will give way a little easier.

    Re: Advice needed..

Here's his response, along with some commentary for the Ducati engineering crew:

"Well, he bent them at the right time of year...this is a ridiculous repair - you have to pull the engine to get them welded. It is the shittiest design I have ever heard of. Do not buy the speedymoto tabs, they are too stiff and will tear the frame tube if you crash again. They need to remove the old tabs, grind off the factory weld and weld on the new tabs.

Seacoast is the place I'd recommend."

    Re: Advice needed..

the good news is that once you get them straightened and boxed in then you won't have to do it again. and do the other side while its being done. sounds like an engine dropping party at your place this winter. save you a lot of money by doing it yourself with friends.

    Re: Advice needed..

Based on the searching I did, it looks like you can just drop the swingarm to get enough room to weld.

Id make sure that it isnt just the bolts that have bent before you go ripping the swingarm off and shit. work smarter not harder.
