    stripped drain plug

Ok , stripped the drain plug thingy and now I can't change the oil. Anyone know how to take a stripped drain plug off , instead of going to the stealership ? Is there some sort of tool for this ?

Oh ya , its a nut shapped plug too. I've heard about using some a socket wrench next size smaller and then hammer that thing into the old one , dunno does this sound good ? The old one is allitle rounded where the corners are suppose to be so the socket wrench won't grip

Try and use a 6 point only socket. !2 point sockets have a tendency to round off nuts and bolts, except in those instances where the fasteners themselves are actually 12 point. You might also try loosening it immediately after you ride. The heat might casue the aluminum to expand enough to make it a little easier to remove the bolt.

I thought for aminute there you stripped the hole in the engine, that would be a lot more annoying.

Like Gerard said... get some metric tools. The only thing you're going to use English on in the garage is maybe the car.

One thing everyone should have in their tool box is a torque wrench. Your drain plug should never be so tight that a 12 point socket rounds it off. When you get the new plug (you should also buy a new washer as well), torque it down properly and get a feel of how much effort it takes to tighten it.

    stripped....

DUde, Use a set of vice grips and don't torque the new drain bolt and washer beyond 22 ftlbs. 22 Ftlbs is the max you should crank that beeeatch on.. Good luck dude.. P.S. the torque setting is for Hondas so if you have a different bike find out the torque spec. IT could be the same but it might not be, Better safe then sorry. To avoid leaks that lead to overtightening the drain bolt ........just change the crush washer everytime you do an oil change.

Just be glad you striped the head of the bolt, and not the threads, its a much more expensive and painful mistake.

werd, you strip the threads & you're replacing the oil pan.... little bit more of an expensive project.
