Me and my father will be taking off the top end of my 98 superhawk as well as cracking the crankcase open aswell. The goal is to swap everything inside of one crank into a shinier, less broken one.

I am looking for simple do and don'ts from people who had to learn the hard way or people that found a trick or two. I have a service manual and will be working with that. Nothing is stupid, especially if anyone has "while your in there advice".

    Let the shit show begin,
    Chris

I did use bags, lots of them, as well as putting nuts back on their bolts when it was the right thing to do. Labeled the Ziploc bags with a sharpie and kept them in order.

    1. Get a notebook. Write down what you do in order. Don't skimp on the descriptions.
    2. I swapped a motor, so this may not apply to you, but I labeled every electrical connector and its mate with duct tape.
    3. Take pictures. Lots of pictures. You won't need most, but the one you need will be priceless.

I bet it'll come out great

Plus on on the electrical connections. Label both sides of each one (1,2,3) and so one do when you put it back together 1 goes with 1....

Good advice on the bearings I will check this out. I am pretty sure we will be removing bagging because my dad is compulsive when it comes to that crap. As far as the connectors go.... it's a 98 superhawk. I had to remove a total of 5 wires from the engine. All of which I am fully acquainted with due to my electrical issues of the past fortunately/unfortunately.

    Keep up the good advice!
