    Something stuck?

On saturday after leaving motomarket my bike started acting up for a moment..

It was fine for about 50 miles or so, and then all of a sudden it stopped returning to idle. It would only drop to 2500rpm.

I ended up pulling over, the throttle didn't appear to be stuck, and the choke wasn't set.

I shut the bike off, let it sit for a minute, and the problem was gone when I started it again. It never came back, and it hasn't done it today either.

    Any ideas?

    Ben

    Something stuck?

The exact same thing happened to another guy during a ride we took on Sunday morning. (His throttle wouldn't return to idle). when he stopped at a light, the bike stayed at 5,000 rpm.) He went home and sprayed some WD-40 on the throttle cable and voila, problem solved. Bad (water in the) gas would usually cause the bike to buck and lurch, so it doesn't sound like bad gas. It's early season and cold, so you might find that the throttle itself is the problem.

Ah ok. I'll have to put a carb heater on.

I would have thought ice in the carbs would cause an RPM drop though.

hows about ice in the cables? I think that is what Chuck and Greg was trying to get across. That can be very very bad! Nothing like having your bike throttle freeze wide open!

PS don't forget to check alternator fluid too! ehe

Sticky throttle cable. Carb icing is possible, but I doubt it. If SV's were prone to that then Randy would know! Actually, I thought SV's were fuel injected...no?

Degs, SV's have carbs, and in the right climate, (british) they are prone to carb icing too, I've had my carbs ice up a couple times on damp cold mornings, not often enuf to get carb heaters though.

The Sv has 2 cable throttle control, doesn't one of em pull the throttle closed?
