    Clutch Help

Hey guys, I'll make this quick.
I went out riding sunday, redlined in first, and the bike cuts out with the fi light on and oil light flashing. I kill the bike, wait 2 minutes, start it up and it runs fine. wierd. Anyways, I added another quart of oil just to be sure last night, and then this happened, not sure if they have anything to do with each other at all, I dont think they do, just wondering.

I was adjusting the clutch knob on my handlebar and think i get it right, then try to start the bike and it wont because the clutch is still engaged. I try to adjust the wire itself down by the sprocket cover on the left side, go all the way in, and pretty far out, and the clutch is still engaging at all times. No clue what to do. Anyone have any quick advice?

Its an 03 gsxr 1000. thanks guys.

    Re: Clutch Help

1 - an oil light means oil pressure, not level... adding a quart won't do anything to fix that. The oil light came on because the engine shut off, which means the engine pump stopped pumping. Just check level & make sure that's right.

2 - the clutch sensor only senses lever position, not actual clutch position. Adjust the knob so that there's only 1-2mm of lever play (measured at the clutch perch).

3 - make sure the bike is in neutral when starting... try starting w/ the clutch engaged and with the clutch disengaged.... and with the kickstand up & the kickstand down. Try all possible configurations. If it starts in a certain configuration it'll help you narrow down which sensor has gone bad. A lot of the times you can just open up the sensor & clean the electrical contacts, re-apply some dielectric grease & it usually works after that.

Don't forget to check all the obvious shit, too. Sometimes it's something that makes you feel really dumb, like an engine cut-off switch in the wrong position.

Speaking of which, check that switch as well. I had issues with my Aprilia when the contacts in my cut-off switch got dirty.

Check that oil level!!! BEFORE YOU RUN IT AGAIN! Adding a quart "just to be safe" without knowing how much oil is already in there is asking for trouble. If you checked, were low and added accordingly, disregard and carry on

172rwhp Coming out the side of the engine case.

Hell with it do an oil& filter change, Clutch free play at the lever (about a nickels width)

You might of just come across A fault in Fuel injection. If it ran fine afterwards you should be all set.

tried to work on it a bit today...

the battery is dead, you were right about that, how you knew that I have no idea, nice one though thats pretty impressive.

anyways, I tried to do an entire push rod adjustment with the knob at the perch screwed all the way in to get the couple mm of free lever play, do i now here that it is supposed to be screwed all the way out?

by the way, as you can probably infer from me asking another question, i had no luck with it today.

Cause, I have seen and wrecked more shit and had to fix it my self cause I am a dummy....LOLOLOL

Not really, it should be a bit snappy and have a small "Nickles" worth of play. If not may need adj.

I like mine a bit tight ohters loose but there is a certain amount that is needed to engage it properly so too loose is not good and also there is adj down low on the case under the tank.
03 were pre slipper so thats not and issue but miles and how its treated is..
