anyone here ever made custom throttle cables?

I bought an r6 throtle on ebay for cheap and it actually came with the throttle houseing and everything as my bike has the old style plastic housing with the switches and throttle housing all in one piece. So I figured why the hell not make it more up to date. I picked up a newer switch housing from a 99 6r so that i can fit the r6 housing on the bar. Now i just need to make some custom cables with my old carb ends on one side and the r6 throttle ends on the other. I've found some good information on doing it on othere forums but was wondering if anyone here has had any first hand experience, that could share any pearls of wisdom.

Lol. Um no. But if I enjoy doing it and its not that big a cost why not? I'm sure plenty of people her are gonna think its a dumb idea. But I think it will be cool when I'm done.

call Motion Pro and tell them what you have for a bike and throttle and they could probably make them up for you for pretty cheap and you won't have to do any of the hard work.

Bike shops used to be able to do this -- they'd have a bunch of little drawers with various little cable fittings and a pot of molten solder. Haven't seen this setup in a while though.

I think in the old days you couldn't get cables pre-made, you could only get the individual components from the factory.

I used to do it for my pit bikes before I was old enough to drive and had money for new stuff. They never seemed to last long, I had ordered the shit to do it with out of a DansComp catalog (BMX catalog)

HA! i used to do this at a shop in Phoenix. we would just reuse the old sheathing and put a new cable in it and solder on the ends. took all of 15 minutes. after doing that as many times as i did it made me wonder why more shops dont do it and why am i paying so much for cables

I have made my own and had MotionPro make them. They sell the parts too.

I called motion pro they told me they only sell in bulk. As in I would need to buy 100ft of conduit/ wire.
They will make me custom cables as well but it would be 40 per cable.

just ordered some cable, conduit, and barrel ends from flanders cable. Now I just need to get/ figure out how to solder them together lol.

Well that was easy they just use 50/50 solder on their barrel ends.

Dave said they'd make the custom cables for him at $40 each. if it was me I'd go that way.

Yeah but I'm cheap lol. I ended up getting the ball ends, cable, and conduit from Flanders Co. In Florida. Awesome people to deal with by the way. I may end up having to steal the ends off of my cables to make this work so I have shelved it for the mean time. Probably do it towards the end of the summer or just wait till we have a string of shite weather.

I had the whole throttle assembly made for me. I hated the G1 SV throttle with the built-in switch pod, so I sent my old assembly to them and they made one for me. It was just under $100 for the whole thing (cables, and throttle assembly). They also make a replacement switch pod for Yamahas: http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/partno/11-0057/
