2 tanks with seafoam and you would have been golden

still suspicious of the tank minimally pull the petcock for a look see

Some rust buster soaking the rings for a couple of days still a good idea

Put tires on it after over ten years they are now brittle rim protectors I suggest Bridgestone T30's

He's doing the right thing by cleaning it. I love me some Seafoam too but this job is well beyond fuel additive.

    Bingo.

Ether, Seafoam... both are cheap, lazy, band-aid, mickey mouse, bs, temporary workarounds that don't fully solve the core problem.

Don't dick around... get in there and fix it right.

It's getting an ultrasonic clean by my local mechanic. No way can this be fully cleaned by hand.

Took one plug out just now, and looks really good. I already bought new ones so it doesn't matter. I sprayed some WD-40 down the first hole, and some leaked out of the bolt in the front of the engine. Is this normal? I was told there was a leak somewhere, but the previous owner thought it was oil.

That hole is a drain for the head. You've got a big cavity for the plug well, that weep hole prevents water from pooling there around the plug and eventually corroding the head from the top down. Nothing to worry about.

Yes, disassembling and manual cleaning could not possibly lead to problems

Seriously check what seals the float valve , if its an O ring I would change it, ask me how I know

I'd highly recommend getting a jet kit while your already into the carbs, I had a 00 bandit 1200 and from the factory they are very cold blooded( need lots of choke to start when the engines cold and until it warms up they run horrible) I did a stage 3 but I also had a gutted exhaust and modified air box/ filter. I miss how smooth and tourqey that bike was, didn't matter what gear I was in it always pulled like a tractor.

Just thought I would let everyone know the bike now runs. I learned a lot from everyone's posts.

It is extremely easy to make a synch tool, I have one that I made out of clear tubing cardboard and 2 stroke oil, it works but is very sensitive. There's also another homemade style where you use 4 bottles, which if I ever need to make another that's the style I'll make because it's just as easy and are much less sensitive.

Congrats on getting it running, doesn't it feel great hearing it come to life for the 1st time!!!

Simple tube loop won't work on this 4-cylinder.

Not sure of your exact setup but installing a damper in the line will slow the response of the fluid......damper being defined as a "pill" that fits inside the existing hose. The pill has a small ID bore which effectively creates the damping affect.

EDIT: "Vacuum restrictor" would be the appropriate terminology
