    More SV issues

So on the SV, 2001, 1st gen, when sitting at stop lights every now and then theres just a big clunk from the engine. Its somewhat common, but not consistent enough that I can narrow down where its coming from. I think it only happens in neutral, cant really feel it when riding, but that might just be masked by the sheer unadulterated joy I get from riding that bike. I know a clunk from the engine is extremely descriptive, I tried searching online, and it seems to be a common ailment, just wondering if anyone has experience with this, and or how to fix it.

    Misfire clunk? Engine ping? Detonation?

Do it with the clutch in while in neutral?

    Re: More SV issues

I used to hear the same thing on my 1st gen SV650. I always thought it was just just the "thumpiness" of the twin, but maybe it really is a problem. But mine only happened when it was cold.

Neutral mostly, clutch too I THINK. But like I say, I only notice it at stop lights, and 90% of the time Im in neutral.

    Re: More SV issues

Someone on SVRider just had an issue with his bike backfiring. His throttle bodies were loose against the intake tubes, causing a large vacuum leak.

What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.

Ehh, nothing like that. The best I can describe it is when you kick the bike back into first from neutral. That nice thwack with enough force to make you feel it through the bike. But its never popping into gear or anything, just that kind of noise/feeling.

    Re: More SV issues

I have a similar issue in my 2000 sv.
Not consistent at all. Almost feels like a misfire to me in the front cylinder. I replaced the coil and plug wire. Still does it intermittenly.

Clean up all your grounds and solder all electrical connections from the battery/grounds/etc.

Vmax did that until I make it easier for it to toss a spark.

Mine does this. I never thought of it as a problem.

Or do you mean it makes that noise when you are NOT doing that? Cause that's weird.

What connections were you recommending to solder?

Mine used to do something similar at low speeds when using a lot of clutch. Got rid of the air injection and it cleaned up.

Any that supply power to the ignition. Including the crimp on the battery leads (both ends), going to the coils, etc.

Helped my Max out tremendously. Now she's smooth as silk even with the cooling fan on in traffic.

    Re: More SV issues

Do you mean solder the connections together and bypass connectors or the wire to the connector.

    Re: More SV issues

Anywhere there is just a crimp connection, flow some solder in there. Wire to connector.

    Chain has too much slack.

How many miles you have on that chain?
