My Speed Triple (05) was just bitten by the infamous problem of the tip over valve on the gas tank's vent line failing. The valve is stuck shut, so air can't vent in or out properly, which was leading to all sorts of hijinks. The temporary solution has been to eliminate the valve so the vent can breathe freely again. Some people seem to opt to just go on without the valve in place, but I'm not too keen on the idea of gas dumping out near my engine/exhaust should I ever go down, so I think I will be replacing the valve.

So my question: Are these types of tip over valves, which are just placed in-line with the vent hose, common on modern bikes? If so, I am thinking I ought to source something other than what Triumph has been using, as they seem to be a commonly failing item. Or do these fail frequently on other makes as well?
