pretty urgent- lost a mirror nut...

wondering if anyone has a spare nut that holds the mirrors on? I'm guessing most bikes are like this.

I didn't tighten one enough and it fell off- I was mad.

Here's a picture of the nut i'm talking about:

If you have any suggestions for replacements... I might just go to a hardware store tomorrow whenever I get the chance to and see if I can find something similar to it- like a regular nut. In the meantime I'll be riding around with only one mirror.

    thanks in advance.

I'm guessing it's a 6mm x1.0 thread, even a home depot should have something that will work.

Re: pretty urgent- lost a mirror nut...

I did this morning and it sucked... had to head check several times every time and I think after a certain frequency it can get dangerous... I also like to glance at the mirror as I'm merging to see if the driver is going to do anything stupid- without one I just have to head check and "go for it". don't like that.

and I'm leaving tomorrow to go home and won't be back till end of august and I don't want to put the bike away without a mirror...

I have some spares of these. If the weather holds out you can bring a wrench to the pose and take one of mine off my bike and I'll just replace it later.

For future reference, you can get an assortment of nuts and bolts at most auto parts stores for under $10 that will have several lengths of M6-1.0 and M8-1.25 bolts, along with nuts for both. A lot of times, it's handy to have some kicking around (more handy when you're working on an older car with rusty fasteners, but it doesn't hurt with a bike, either). At this point, I keep some M4x.70, M6x1.0, and M8x1.25 bolts around; the first two classes are used quite a bit on the Ninjette., and being able to pull an extra fastener out of the toolbox and use it beats the hell out of having the bike down because you need to get to a store with metric hardware to put something back together.

+1 - I bought a kit of "sport bike bolts" on the internet (forget where, but you can probably google it). It has been really useful for me (and the rest of zip tie alley).
