So as some of you know I got a 2006 GSX-R 750. This past spring the water pump started leaking oil. I jumped on the Gixxer forum (yes I know) and I found some actually pretty useful threads on this exact problem. I guess it's a very common problem on my bike. Basically my research led me to the point where I had to replace part # 5, 8 and 9. http://www.oneidasuzuki.com/store/pa...0-2006-07.html. I own a repair manual for my bike so I followed the directions exactly how the book stated and made sure everything was properly torqued when I was putting the pump back together.
Well the pump is still leaking oil. I went back to the gixxer forum (yes I know again) and they said that it's probably the mechanical seal that is worn out (part# 4) and try to replace that. Ok here's where the dilema comes in.
1) In order to replace part #4 you need a specialized Suzuki tool and when I did a search or it, it came up being anywhere from $600-800+. Yea F that.
2) People were saying to buy a new water pump assembly. That's only good if you have the specialized tool because online vendors send you the pump completely apart so you still need the specialized too.
3) I could buy a used (assembled) pump off ebay for cheap money but it's used and I run the risk of that pump failing in the near future. Feel more comfortable putting on new parts.
So I'm kind of at a point where I'm not sure what else to do. I could go to a stealership and have them do it but the problem with that is I dont need to pay a shop hundreds of dollars to replace the pump when I can do it blindfolded. Do you guys think the stealership's could order me a pump and then put the pump together for me and then I take the pump home and actual do the swap? If you guys got any other ideas or advise, let me know!
