    valve adjustment

So I'm at the end of my bike's break-in period and need to get it to a shop for the 1,000 mile service. I'm fairly certain that they adjust the valves as well as other things (oil, oil filter, etc). My question is, will I notice a difference in the way the engine runs, such as it having more torque, better throttle response, smoother running engine... or is the adjustment too minuscule to notice?

I'm not a huge gear head even though I like to tinker around with things, but I'm fairly certain this above my head anyway. Just curious. Thanks.

    Re: valve adjustment

Valves are likely shim and bucket and within spec, so I wouldn't expect any difference at all. What bike?

Yep... shims. I'd expect them to check the valves, but I wouldn't be surprised to see 20,000 before they actually need some adjustment.

    oohhhhh... umm, shims? huh?

The only thing I've ever used shims for is carpentry...

I'd avoid putting those kind of shims under my cams

good stuff, thanks for the info. If all I need to do to it for this service is oil and oil filter... I might just do it myself and save the labor charges!

    Re: valve adjustment

The valve check probably doesnt need to be done until 15k miles. Just change the oil etc and you will be set.

Nilez, your R1 won't need to have a valve adjustment for 26K. One of the benefits of owning a proper bike.

Real bikes would have had their valves adjusted about 4 or 5 times in that many miles

    Re: valve adjustment

Your motor won't need any valve adjust for at least 25k.

FWIW; I bought my FZ brand new and when I checked the valves at 26k, I had 3 exhaust a smidgen on the tight side...which I found to be odd, but nonetheless, every thing else was well within spec.

Yamaha did good on the R1 motor.
