Is it common for the bearing caps to not slide up the locator dowels when you loosen the bolts? I've went a half turn on all the bolts now and there's a visible gap between the heads of the bolts but the bearing caps aren't coming apart from the head. From the way the service manual states it they should be coming right apart as there is spring tension pushing them away from the head and you gotta be careful to loosen all the bolts evenly so the caps don't get damaged. Doesn't seem quite right to me and I really don't feel like replacing the head if I screw it up.

Some will be under spring load and some won't. Don't overthink it. You may have to gently coax some of them up. Be careful as everything is aluminum.

No. It will stick a bit. The main thing it to bring everything up evenly as you don't want to warp the cam holder caps. Use a soft plastic pry if needed.
K. I'll give it another go around later see if I can get it to move. Thanks.
