OK. We finally got around to doing some serious work on the VFR this evening.
Opened up the motor a little to inspect. looks to be pretty good. Clutch looks good, all the cam gears are mint, as is the shift drum and gears. The crank and rods seem good as far as we can tell. Cams are fine. We can see a slight mark (wouldn't call it a score) on the cylinder wall of one cylinder at the piston skirt area but we think it's fine. The heads will be coming off because the valves look bad and we will be replacing all of them, as well as valve seals etc. Then we will check the valve clearances and close her back up. Cleaned up the mating surface and inside of oil pan and gave the frame a clean-up. That's about it for now. Next week is carbs and parts ordering.
more pics
Couple more
The pictures of the inside of the motor make it look pretty crappy but it's just the camera. The motor is very clean inside. The exhaust valves look terrible though (as do the intakes).
will Q be offering autographed copies in an 8x10 ?
Not too shabby. It looks pretty damned clean. Can't wait to see that bike up and running again.
jim was useless at polishing anything last night, surprisingly.
