Welder for Light Duty Job? (subframe seat tabs)

Any recommendations for a local (Cambridge and surrounds) welder for what looks to be a simple weld job?

The thin tabs on the subframe (Ducati 848) to which the aftermarket plastics bolt have snapped on both sides. I have the Armorbodies super bike plastics, pre-formed and designed to bolt to this particular tab. They are relatively clean breaks. I feel like this would be a simple weld job for the right person.

Bump -- anyone have a recommendation for a welder in the Boston area for this relatively simple project? This seems to be a profession for which the internet search algorithm is ill-designed.

The guy who teaches welding at Artisan Asylum welds Ti bicycle frames for a living. He goes by "Skunk." He or someone he's trained could do it readily. Maybe they would do it as a class exercise?

I would be trying an application of JB Weld to see what I could get away with.

Dustin, in case you strike out... my welder friend has semi-resurfaced of late and I'm aiming to have some work done on my Kendon. We can coordinate if you're still in need in a couple weeks.

Re: Welder for Light Duty Job? (subframe seat tabs)

Thanks for the suggestions above and the offer, rg500.

To answer Kitt's question, the broken tab is a mild, disappointingly thin-gauge steel. The subframe is the stock trellis steel.

Interesting suggestion on JB Weld, Bergs. Definitely the path of least resistance. Although what I've heard from others who have suffered with this 848 headache suggests it won't hold up, seems worth a try.

I thought most people had a MIG welder that could put that back together in 5 minutes. Little extra bead or an easily placed gusset and the frame would break before that tab would again.

I'm in Roslindale and can do it. I'm not very good so it'll look like shit, but it will (should?) be structurally sound

I have been back and forth to Boston a lot lately. If you want to drop it off with me at Boston Children's Hospital I can take it home and fix it and bring it back. It will take a few days but I am happy to do it.

D-Dracut A-Alternator and S-Starter is where the DAS in DAS Performance comes from. It is in Dracut on Bridge St. which runs right down into Lowell so Jim is not entirely wrong. Custom Motorcycle, See Our Work & Get More Information Today
