    What's a good multi-compound tire?

My power cruiser uses z-rated supersport tires and I've been doing about 1000 miles of highway commuting to work... 3500 miles the belt is showing on the rear tire. I'm looking for a good tire that will last, Pirelli Corsa III's sound good, and Michelin has Pilot Road ^2's.. I won't be riding in the rain unless I get caught in it. Any recommendations?

    I believe stock rear is a 180/17

    Stop doing burn-outs.

Seriously though, Pirelli makes some great triple compound tires. You can still get the Diablo Corsa III (DCIII) for decent money.

What can I expect to get out of these tires? Does Metzeler have any? ..Avon?

    It's not my fault..

    Stock rear is a ZR17/200 .. so that knocks out Corsa III's .. biggest is a 190..

Avon does not use multi-compound technology, instead, they use variable belt density technology, more belts in the center for lass flex less heat and longer tire life, fewer belts at the edge for more flex and more heat

Don't listen to the dumb sport bikers. Get a Avon cobra or go to the dark side.

Road Smarts. The Pilot PR2's are supposed to be of Chinese mfg now, so when I flip the tires off the C-14, it's Road Smarts. They're getting 8500 miles on a rear and around 10K on the fronts on C-14s. It's a pretty heavy bike with a lot of slab mileage, so that ain't too shabby.

I went with an Avon Storm 2 Ultra for 180 shipped @ bb

..should I get a matching front or wear out the stocker first?

Just had degsy put on my new pilot road 2ct's....and I love them! Took about 100 miles to really fall in love. I commute to work and school, its a very neutral tire; and makes the twisties very easy to manage and enjoy.

I'm running pilot road 2's and I love them for street, they have a track one, pilot power 2 that is a softer multiple compound for track too.....they are super sticky though. Much better than the bridgestones I used to have....

CHINA??? I hope someone told Michelin!

I have had more than one shop tell me of a rider getting 10K plus out of the Pilot Road 2's.

Recent-release PR-2's are now from China. Sorry. Now, if you found some from somewhere that were pre-China release, fine. Meanwhile, out of a simple, racist, zionist, protectionist slant, I'm not buying into Chinese tires. Especially Chinese tire built under contract from a French tire company. Hell, for all I know, Chinese manufacture may be the greatest slice of tire since the Third Reich built Messerschmidt 109's, but I ain't buying the damned things. If anyone knows Dunlop is building Road Smarts in China, I won't buy those either.

    Comments? Suggestions?

    Re: What's a good multi-compound tire?

Not going near the China thing beyond this point: If it's not made there, it's likely made in Pakistan. Get used to it.

The PR2 is a good tire, I loved the original Roads on my 851. I just slapped some ContiRoadAttacks on my ZRX and initial impressions are good, just going to have to see how many miles they'll take. Continental uses "Continuous Compound" technology, in which the tire is cured at different temperatures across the cross-section, effectively yielding harder rubber in the middle than on the sides. All I can say to this is, I *have* felt it at work on the race tires I've tried (edge grip is incredible but the wear as you get to the middle of the tire is also phenomenal) and it'll be interesting to see how the Road Attacks fare on my 'Rex which sees mostly commuting duty.

My fall back was the PR2, FWIW.

Personally I love Michelin tires, after I wear down my PPs I'm going to get a set of dual compound tires from them.
