    Wheel bearings?

My '84 Interceptor has a god-awful howling noise coming from the front end. It comes and goes with various speeds over ~15mph, and at highway speeds it goes away altogether. It's been around for a few years, but it's getting more and more common...and louder. Any way to confirm it's a wheel bearing before I pull the wheel? No wobbles or vibrations or anything fun like that. It's just fucking annoying.

Lift the front end, spin the wheel, feel and listen...

Yeah, I've done that. No noises and notchy-ness that I can feel. I'll just pull the wheel. I'm 99% sure it needs bearings.

    Re: Wheel bearings?

Sometimes the weight of the wheel will hide notchy bearings . So yes pull the wheel. Since you have your tools out not a bad idea to check the rear wheel while your at it.

Do the bearings no matter what, but also consider the wear on the front tire. I've had tires that howl louder and louder the older they get. Might be time to change it.

Just get your finger in there

If it feels notchy then they are toast

You can get good bearings at local bearing house they are just

OD ID and thickness with double seal
