    zx6r FI light help

So I bought a zx6 and ive been finding that the previous owner cut corners and didnt really take to much care of the bike. I noticed the FI light is on, I brought the bike down to a motorcycle shop near my house they told me when he put on the hot bodies straight pipe exhaust on (which will be changed this winter) they cut out the butterfly valve. I was told its not damaging the bike any, but the fact that it wasnt done right and the FI light is on is driving me nuts. Im not even sure what a butterfly valve is seeing im very new to bikes and working on them. I didnt know if anyone knew how big of a deal it would be for me to fix this and how I would do it.

    Thanks
    Mike

Usually, there's a wire you can cut to the ecu. What year?

By the way, the butterfky valve is a valve in the exhaust operated by a servo motor that opens over a certain RPM. It's designed to alter the exhaust scavenging characteristics for a best of both worlds exhaust system. Good low down response and high RPM power.

Take a look at kawiforums, iirc they have a thread regarding a butterfly valve mod that the previous owner might have fucked up.

    636's are the shiznit

I assume it's similar to the gizxer set up. When u cut that cable and remove servo motor it doesn't do damage but sets off an error code. All u need to do is remove a wire from the ecu, tape it off and light goes off. Im just assuming its just like a gizxer but your best bet is the kawi forums as I'm sure it's been brought up million times over. And the dealers asking $350 for a 10 minute job that requires nothing but electrical tape? Time to switch dealers or go to degsy

Hey Mike, For zx6r questions might I suggest www.zx6r.com? it's a forum site similar to this one, but it's all 6r riders, and there is a shitload of information on those bikes specifically all over that site. Oh, and Degsy works at a very, very good speed shop in Swansea. If you join up on ZX6R.com look for me, same username
