Great opening round for ECK Racing!
Peter, Timothy, Gino and new ECK teammate Isaac Maycotte all competed in the first LRRS event of the year this past weekend, with the latter three all being new to the Expert grids this time around having bumped to Expert status over the winter. All four riders shined in their own at one point or another during the event.
Gino took his first Expert Top 10 finish in Formula 40 Unlimited crossing the line in an impressive 8th place! And in his first appearance in the Expert Middleweight Grand Prix (Dash for Cash) Feature race he rode very respectably and came home 18th. (See video clip of the start!).
Tim kicked off his Expert career with enthusiasm, entering an ambitious 5 races. He would go on to take a 12th place finish in GTL (started 19th) and a 17th place finish in Lightweight Grand Prix (started 20th). Sunday in the wet Tim took a 6th place finish in Lightweight Supersport (started 7th) 9th in Lightweight Superbike (started 11th) and capped off his weekend by starting 7th and finishing 2nd to take his FIRST EXPERT PODIUM in Thunderbike in the rain!
Isaac also represented well in 5 races through the course of the weekend and picked up the season right where he left off in 2015. He'd start off the year off with a long battle against RSP Racing's Kyle Reese in GTL, who got the better of him on the VERY last lap, religating him to a still impressive 15th place out of 25 riders. In Lightweight Grand Prix he'd take home a 22nd place but came back strong in Ultralight Superbike, finishing JUST out of the top 10 in 11th place with a new personal best lap time (1:21.1)! Sunday in the rain he developed a feel for his new Pirelli Rain tires and danced the rear around to an 11th place finish. In Lightweight Supersport he would swap places with RSP Racing's Bill Coolahan, taking a spot away from him in turn 1, only to go down a few corners later in turn 3. Every cloud has a silver lining though and he was able to pick the bike back up and finish (albeit at the back of the pack), earning up some early season points for 14th place.
Lastly, Pete, who entered 3 races, nabbed 3 holeshots. In Saturday's Ultralight Superbike he took the took the lead into turn 1 from the third row and fended off Seth Hahn for most of the race. Seth managed a pass exiting turn 10 but Pete out drove him down the straight to regain the lead and easily gapped out as Seth ran into clutch issues and withdrew from the race shortly after. Sunday he ran into issues of his own exiting turn 2 in the rain on the opening lap of Lightweight Superbike where he'd spin up the rear and spit the bike out from under him. Thinking the race was red flagged he cut through the turn 3/10 split giving him an automatic DNF. Later in the day he'd redeem himself in Lightweight Supersport. Again, a very wet race, he'd battle with lightweight rain specialist Sam Witham. Pete took the holeshot but Sam out drove him out of turn 2. Pete almost let him get away, but kept him within sight and waited for his moment. He'd find it in turn 6 under braking with one lap to go and finish his weekend with his second win.
All in all, it was a terrific weekend for the ECK Racing crew. Enormous thanks to all of those who came up to cheer us on, help and laugh with us in the pits, and to all of those who have supported us out both at and away from the track. Special appreciation to GMD Computrack Boston, Woodcraft Technologies, Pine Motor Parts, Skid Mark Racing/Motorsports, On Track Media and Motorcycle Tires & Gear Pirelli!
And as a special bonus reward for reading all of this crap, here's the T1 Cornerworker's view of the start of the Dash For Cash!
