Finally got the motard back together and decided I would head up for the last race weekend of the season to have some fun.
Got up there Friday night to find that the guys in the 1-1A area (Adam, Heath, Cooner) had a spot all layed out for me in the compound. Settled in and got teched for the next morning.
Sat, went out for both practices and realized that I am in fact as slow as I thought I would be coming back after roughly two years off track. Entered the Production Twins race on my motard, let the three others that were entered get into 1 without interfering in what races they had going on then proceeded to ride around and remember what this racing thing is all about. Around 3/4 race wound up passing one of the other production twins guys and finished in third. Still slow.
Sun, skipped first practice, it was damn cold. Went out for second practice and wound up getting a little faster and a little more comfortable with my riding. Entered race 2 Motard with all the rest of the motard guys. Gridded up, saw the green flag, took off towards turn 1 and said to myself "Where'd everybody go?" I was dead last and feeling slower than slow but I was back racing again so I rode around trying to be smooth and have fun. Got blasted past by a bunch of the experts, watching Narbonne back it into turn 9 was interesting to say the least. Wound up finishing in last place but had a great time doing it. My best lap time for the weekend came in the motard race on Sunday I think it was a 01:30.7XX which is roughly 5 seconds slower than I used to run but I'll take it for my first weekend back on the track racing.
Hopefully I'll put a plan together to be able to race full time next season and get my lap times back to where they were before or further.
Thanks to all the guys that I got to hang out with in the compound this weekend (and all season even when I wasn't racing) Adam, Heath, Christian, Glen, Cooner, Eric, Chris, Bill, Gino it's the friendships and camraderie that make racing so much fun. See you guys next season if not before.......................
