    728 Round 6

Ok, since a few people are reading these, and I got home early today I figure I should write this up before I forget everything that happened.

Since the last round, I made one major mod to the R6. I got the stock ECU flashed by Anthony Corbo at Bauce Racing in NJ. My bike has been really down on power and generally unruly under decel. The amount of tweaks runs deep and that's a whole 'nother thread. But suffice to say I am happy with the improved power and ridability.

Saturday morning was quite cool, and I had some seriously used tires on for practice. The bike was stronger, and smoother on decel. This allowed me to get into the high 15s without any real drama. Looking good for the races.

I put fresh rubber on for GTU and gridded up. They decided to send us in the same wave as GTO since there was a light field (No Scottie G). After a little confusion as to which spot was mine, I got in my spot JUST in time for the lights to go out. I got a great launch and passed all but one bike in the 2 rows of GTO ahead of me. I slotted in behind Corey Hildebrand and clicked off a series of laps in the mid to high 1:14 bracket. After a few of those Kerry was giving me the big gap signal, meaning no one was pressuring me, but I'm thinking, this is a 25 minute race. Can't let off. They are coming. I kept my head down and stayed in or near the 14s past the halfway mark. Still getting the signal, I just kept telling myself to breathe, it'a a loooong race. 20 minutes in I started to have some big slides, so I eased back and took the checkers with an 8 second lead winning GTU. I was a bit stunned, but super pumped with this performance!

Next up was the dash for cash, and it couldn't have gone much differently. I got a decent launch, but the magic start I envisioned evaporated when the rider just ahead on my right moved over sharply closing the hole I was about to squirt through. I repositioned to his outside and tried to go around him in 1, but he slammed the door on me again into 1a and I used a little grass to keep it upright. I came out of 2 last. Damnit! I put my head down and chased for the entire race, reeling in the lead 4 lap by lap, but when I arrived on the wheel of the battle for 4th, the white flag flew. I was confused as it seemed too soon. Little did I know they had shortened the race to 8 laps! I finished 5th, a bit disappointed as I had the pace to finish 3rd if it had gone 12 laps. I did repeat the speed I showed in GTU, so I was happy with that.

Sunday I run F40MW. Scottie G had returned to the grid, but almost no one else showed, so it was 3 in my class. I looked at the sleeve on my leathers and realized that I forgot to arm the airbag. Doh! This made me a bit nervous and telling myself just don't crash... I managed this, but barely.

They sent the LW class behind us in the same wave. I thought I may just roll into T1 in 3rd and see what I could glean from Scottie, when Jessie Sandoz blitzed me into 1 on that Duc! Doh! I now know that thing has some grunt! Now it became a race long 3 way battle with Jessie and Adam Andrusia. I felt I had the pace, but passing the Big Duc proved challenging. I finally got a run and passed Jessie down into T1 on the last lap and set my sights on Adam. We were in lapped traffic now, and we crested the hill and headed down into the Bowl with 1 lapper ahead.

He took a very wide entry, so without hesitation I dove for the inside. I made it to the apex bar to bar with him and thought I had 2nd in the bag. The problem was he made a quicksteer entry that shot him from the top of the bowl to the bottom really qiuckly. I was right where he was trying to go and he slammed into me... BANG. It felt like a full contact hockey check. I was sure we were both down, but I had a strong stance, and he bounced wide. Jessie had decided to follow me and made a crazy move to avoid us both. Adam had chosen to go outside, and was able to motor around 6 and take 2nd. Gah! Well, at least I didn't go flying with no airbag!

Adrenaline filled weekend for sure. The track hangover will be strong tomorrow.

Thanks man. They all can't be like this one, but I'm looking forward to wrapping up what has turned out to be a great season. Then heading to Barber to race with Kerry and Kris at the AHRMA event Columbus day weekend. Finishing up with a bang!

Cool report and congrats on your weekend, I will be headed to Barber also. Skipping Weekend 7 at Loudon to save a few bucks and tires.
Good luck with the rest of your year.
The Vintage Festival at Barber is such a cool event everyone who races or just loves motorcycles needs to go at least once in there life time! I could spend hours in the museum alone!! and have!

Thanks man, this will be my first trip to barber and i am super pumped. Kerry has been many times and has some great stories. Should make a great capstone to our season.

We are in the upper paddock. Be sure to come hang out!

Speaking of barber... PK will do a damage assessment. I’ll get the parts needed but you might have to do some of the leg work yourself. I won’t have time plus I’m away in Taiwan second half of this month. Any chance you have a Daytona windscreen?

Isaac! What are we talking about? Do you have replacement rearset for the left side? I think the bodywork was more or less in tact. I didn't inspect the bars too closely, not sure what all was bent. I won't have a lot time since I will get the bike from Peter at the last round.

No, I don't have a windscreen left over.

But I will do whatever work required to get it race ready!

I *think* it’s just a rearset and clip on that needs replacing. Ok. I’ll source the screen and get the bodywork to you. I’ll know more once PK gives it the once over. Body work was shockingly intact.
