    Am. 121 Rnd. 3 2012 Loudon Classic

I Got what I needed this weekend... alot of practice and track time. I started my 4-day Classic weekend by sneaking out of work and getting up to the track for Thursday practice. It really helped alot and got me feeling good on the bike once again. I spent most of the day working on my lines and my body position. If anything, practice helped me break out of the rut I was in, as evidenced by my laptimes later on in the weekend.

So Thursday practice was very beneficial, but it did have a downside... on the last lap of the last session, a rider came up beside me on my right as we entered the braking zone for t3. He got so close that we rubbed lightly, and he went down. This all happened while we were going in a straight line, so I was a little surprised he crashed. I went right over there on my bike once I got off the track so I could see if he was alright, but was met with a bunch of shouting about how I just ruined his 18,000 dollar bike! I don't want to mention anyone by name, and most of you know who I'm talking about, but anyway, after his dad got done yelling I just simply said sorry, but I can't really see how that was my fault. There was plenty of track to go around me to the inside and we weren't even turning... it weighed on my mind for the rest of the weekend and it sucks about the bike, but at least the kid was okay. Later on Sunday when I was driving home, I had another encounter with the old man as he tried to run me and my 6-yr. Old son off the highway whilst giving me the finger and gesturing to pull over. I just shook my head... if he wants to fight, it will have to be when I'm not with my kids... . Anyway, other than that incident practice went well and I was ready to go racing.

I did gtu on Friday, mwgp on Saturday, and hwss on Sunday. Even though my laptimes improved this weekend, everyone else's must have too, because I took my usual 8th/9th places in the 1st two races, but the Classic was better.

The Classic was a badass race. I could sense the high level of competitiveness and overall I've never felt that way in any other race. I got a great start from row 2, went into t1 with the top 5, started to fall back a few places for the first couple of laps, but settled into a groove and started dropping my laptimes. I was chasing a couple guys and making progress when I came out of 12 and almost slammed into a bike laying on the racing line. I got around the bike and started charging down the straight but the red flag came out... . The next start went even better and I flew off the line into 3rd before t1. I did some laps before a group of guys passed me, and from there it was a non-ending battle with an orange machine of some sort. He passed me once before the bowl but I got him back on the brakes, then a bunch of times on the front straight I outbraked him into 1. Then the white flag flew so I put my head down and just tried to go as fast as I could w/no mistakes. It worked and I kept the orange bike behind me, as well as set a new pb of 1:21.8. I ended up 12th out of about 20 racers. I know it's not setting the world on fire, but it feels good to get out of the rut! Plus, when the experts went by me in t9 I realized there's time to lose over there next time...

Nice job getting it back together after the issues you were having last week, sounds like you had a lot of fun and got back in the groove. Sounds like you kept your cool with the angry parent as well. I don't know the details, so I'm not going to comment on it, but 99% of the time keeping cool is the right thing to do.

Brian you know some folks have already spoken to you about on track safety and your erratic and unpredictable lines... we were watching some races and saw that continue this weekend, people checking up all over the place trying to lap you as you swooped around.

Based on that I would have a hard time believing that a double digit expert and AMA rider was completely at fault for this incident and you should really have a more open mind to consider what you're doing out there and how you might be able to change it.

You seem like a nice guy but it seems sometimes like you are a bit stubborn and don't want to listen to folks.

And as I've said before, just trying to help and I hope you don't take this the wrong way... If you get upset and don't want to talk to me anymore that's your call but we are all part of a community and I only have good intentions in trying to comment here and I don't hold anything against you.

CEO, really dude, we were straight up and down! Even if you want to argue that I'm unpredictable, that wouldn't work in this particular case. I've managed a season and a half without incident, and only 2 lowsides so to make some case that I'm swooping all over the track isn't plausible IMO. Honestly you're the first racer to say anything along those lines.

Re: Am. 121 Rnd. 3 2012 Loudon Classic

    Brian,

Yet again I find myself asking you respectfully to NOT blast other racers on this forum. So many people look at this that do not race, and they can immediately form negative viewpoints toward a rider who they do not even know. I've known Alex and Al for over 12 years now. They are both good people and very good sportsmen. Last year Alex had one incident where he got upset, but he apologized to ALL who were involved, including myself. He was also riding with a broken shoulder most of the season and tried to ignore it. Certainly not an excuse for getting loud, but that's why he owned it and apologized for getting upset. Al Guilbeault doesn't yell. I think anyone who knows him would agree. Alex is a great kid. A respectful kid.

So, I ask you yet again Brian...if you have an issue with someone, WAIT until everyone has calmed down(perhaps at the end of the day), and go find the person, sit down with a coffee or a cold beverage, and work it out like racers. Blasting your fellow riders on this forum is disrespectful and it breeds bad blood between members of the LRRS FAMILY.

    I hope you will agree.

Almost every race report you are usually pointing fingers at much more experienced racers for crashes or "close calls". If that was my case, I'd start to wonder if it was something I was doing wrong. Disclaimer: I think you're a nice guy Brian, I don't have any ill will towards you with that comment, just an observation.

What the fuck are you two talking about? I didn't blast the kid, just got my side out there because the kid posted on facebook that he was taken out, and that just isn't the case. And Larson, if you want to make shit up you can fuck off... I've lopsided twice and never once blamed someone... unlike some of you, I don't confuse racing with trackdays... I don't act like a pussy if there is a close call or contact.

Ok, I never told you to fuck off, and I won't. I was just making a point, one that was actually brought up to me by someone not on the forum, and I happen to agree. Im not refering to your crashes, just the controversy that seems to revolve around your racing. But thanks for the kind words man.

come on Heath, he didn't mention any names. so regardless of whose fault it was you can't go giving the guy shit for simply bringing it up on the internet. I'd say he kept it anonymous out of respect the them (which everyone now knows who because of you). I've only talked to them on facebook but they seem like good people. I've talked to Brian in person and he's an alright guy too. I didn't see the situation so its hard to really say much about it but it sounds strange that someone would go down when both parties are going in a straight line.

Ever watch Mr. Magoo as a kid? Just because someone has a relatively clean safety record doesn't mean their lines don't suck and aren't causing issues for other riders. I've never watched you race and I have NO idea what you're doing out there... but if people I know and trust (like CEO) were repeately telling me that I'm causing issues out there for other riders, I would hope that I'd listen to em and do something about it instead of shoving my head further up my crack.

your lines are a little weird in a couple spots. couple that with you going just a bit faster this past weekend and it made it a little tougher to get by. typically I think its just they are unusual lines but you stick to them and don't go all over the place. I'd have to follow you again to be able to tell you exactly where but I think 6 might be one of them and its why I can come underneath you so easily.

I agree 100%... and that is what other reputable sources have told me... that I'm leaving too much room coming out of 6. It really comes down to me being a little shy turning in after I lowsided over there and trashed my paintjob.

I didn't see the incident, but I now have both sides of the story so for the benefit of all who are learning this craft of racing and want to be safe doing it, let me try to figure out what happen...

According to Alex, he passed you out of 2, and you hit him from behind coming into 3. What that suggests is that if you were still besides him entering 3, you were out of his sight and he didn't expect you there. What does your typical line from 2 to 3 look like? I hope it's not the one that I see lots of out of region visitors take where they try to take a short cut from 2 to the braking zone of 3 which results in a dangerous intersecting line. I'm not trying to point fingers, just want to understand what happen so I can learn from other's mistakes.

Re: Am. 121 Rnd. 3 2012 Loudon Classic

Roland, my line from 2-3 is not the "shortcut" which you speak of. I know there's always 2 sides to a story, and I think the fact that an expensive bike getting ruined might make someone want to point the finger at someone else... however, I won't try and argue anything here, especially when the other party isn't present. The only thing I'll say is that if he passed me out of 2, he would have been long gone because he is much faster than me, especially thru t3. Despite what CEO might think, I was very open minded about what my role was... I thought about it all weekend and still can't figure out how he crashed. There was no hit, just a light rub, and he was on the right side of me so it wasn't. His brake lever getting pressed.
