Well since I only completed 4 actual race laps, i'll keep it brief.
Unfortunately I had to work Friday and Saturday, so I didn't end up arriving until Saturday night around 9pm.
Sunday first practice - Short, only got three laps in. Worked on fixing my line from 1 - 2 and felt pretty comfortable.
2nd practice - felt comfortable on the bike and started picking up the pace in a couple of my problem areas. dropped a few seconds off my PB to reach a 1:23.6
23's were my goal for the weekend so I was happy, especially on very limited seat time. Just wanted to maintain through the races and get ready for june....
First Race was #5, Novice Starter 2. Start was pretty bad as usual, but moved into 3rd going into 3. Next lap I passed the front 2 guys also going into turn 3. The two guys ahead of us in the video are in the Starter 1 class. So anyway, held first for a couple of laps, ended up hitting a new PB of 1:23.0 and then unfortunately crashed on my approach to turn 1.
Still kind of confused about the crash. I made my first downshift ok, then hit my second, released the clutch but the bike felt like it was in between gears, like a false neutral. After about a second of this, it slammed into gear and fishtailed me all over the place eventually causing me to lose it and go down pretty hard.
Any ideas on what would cause this or how to avoid it? I know I can just grab the clutch, but it happened so quickly i'm not confident that i'd be able to react in time.
Anyway, bike wasn't too bad and I was fine. Next race was #8 so I had to rush to get it back together. Replaced the shift rod and clutch lever and she was good to go. This was right around the second call for race 8. I went over to tech but no one was there. Looked around and asked people for about 10 mins and still couldn't find anyone. At this point it was past final call and I was just frustrated so I decided i'd be better off skipping the race.
Overall I was happy about my times and felt good out there, but would have liked to make it through a weekend without crashing.
Thanks to everyone I normally pit with for all the help and encouragment, and big thanks to Trouble! Just met the guy and he helped me rush to get my bike back together, very cool.
Anyway, here's the video, crash occurs just prior to 6 mins in.
