why? Scottie had Freddie take out his CBR for that reason. I had Oxx take out my bike when I felt it sliding. Nothing wrong with having someone more experienced take your bike out to see if they get the same issues.

Who ever said anything about spending a ton of money on aftermarket parts?

I am going to have Kates take a look at my stock suspension and see if we can tweak it... and I am getting some Dunlop take offs from Michael Martire.
I think it is reasonable to swap tires considering the 4,000 miles, 9 track days, and one race weekend I have on this set

If you wanna exchange bikes for a session during the next trackday I'd be okay with that. So far I'm 0-1 for people liking my bike. Looking to make it 0-2.
I would be happy to have you take my bike out at the next Bomo day, but not sure I want to ride yours
What might be even more helpful to me is to have you ride behind me through T3 and T12, my bike will do it every single time so maybe that would be good for someone to see exactly what it is doing....

Oxx did take it out the last Bomo days, and he said he stayed out of 2nd gear because he noticed the engine cutting out, which is something I have never ever noticed...

I really don't think my inputs are that severe, anyone who has ridden behind me can attest that I try to stay relaxed, and smooth. I'm definitely no ham fist with the throttle. I do have a good drive, but I apply it slowly and smoothly after the corner.

Re: Rookie weekend -NV #629 Round 7

Oh crap...... I did some research, and it seems like I'm having 2nd gear slip, not clutch slip. Seems to be a notorious problem in 99-02 R6's, usually happening around 20,000 miles (mine just turned 22,000). Fuck. These are other R6 owners descriptions of what happens, which sounds mighty similiar to my experiences... What do I do? This sounds expensive....

"My R6 has a prematurely worn 2nd gear dog and had only done 20,000k's.
The symptoms are that the transmission briefly disengages whilst under power in second gear. This feels as though the bike is briefly loosing traction or a hiccup in power delivery."

    "In summary, here's what happens to mine: 2000 R6 - 10,500 miles.

While getting on the gas in 2nd gear, the bike pulls fine. Then all the sudden, the gear slips. It would be the exact same feeling if you hit a bump and the rear wheel came off the ground under heavy acceleration. You would feel a 'bump' or 'hiccup' and the bike would stop pulling, while the engine would rev to redline and bounce off the rev limiter. Not a fun experience while in full lean....

After having this happen systematically, i've reproduced this problem at 12000 rpm in 2nd gear only. No other gears have this behaviour....

Sounds like it's a common problem at that mileage in 2nd gear at high rpm."

"the exact problems differ just a little depending on serverity of the worn shift dog(s). When you first start noticing it, it feels like you pinched a fuel line for a second (or got something in the jets), and then it kicks a little as though whatever was hendering the fuel, was gone. That little hesitation and the quick jerk of power right after gets steadily worse. It only happens when you gun it, or accelerating at high RPM (usually happen to me around 11k Rs). That quick jerk turns into a violent "boost of power" that will break the tire loose out back, without even trying, potentially causing you to lay her down if you punch it too hard coming out of a turn. It almost feels like the clutch is doing it (making it slip), but if you don't feel it in every gear, its 99% chance its 2nd gear shift dogs, forks, etc."

Your inputs have been smooth and steady from the beginning. Wasn't suggesting that was the issue, it was more of a statement.

Maybe make your gearing more aggressive so that you don't use 2nd gear?

I don't think I use second gear at loudon on my r6.

Yes....this is definitely a possibility. I am already +1/-2, so my rear sprocket is a 50 (stock is 48). I may bring a bigger sprocket with me to the track in case I end up needing to do this. But.... for launches I really may need to fit a 12 o'clock bar on the bike in case I wheelie the bejeezus out of it. Would a 12 o'clock bar pass tech?

Option #2 is to try to shift into 3rd mid corner in T3 and T12 which doesn't sound like much fun....

Option #3 is to try to get a lot faster so I never even have to be in 2nd gear I guess.

Argh. I can't believe I have fallen victim to the dreaded first gen R6 2nd gear slippage problem.... right at the end of the season.

With Bergs guidance... I am looking into replacing the gears, or sourcing a new transmission, or engine but that probably won't happen in time for the next race weekend.... so I will be limping along

Did you catch the two stroke fever pitting with Mike? If you want a real race bike you could get an RS125... A very rewarding and fun bike to ride.

Do yourself (and everyone else) a favor and please do not race that bike in said condition. you stand to A: highside yourself to the moon, B: get piled into by a 400 lb 600, C: Pile into someone else.

Believe me, I'm trying to get everything sorted ASAP.

And, it is entirely possible to spin the rear wheel on this bike.

I wasn't dissin the bike, but you have to admit that I was able to ID a transmission problem without even seeing or hearing it. I can safely say I know a little about bikes and racing, what will spin at what pace, in what corners, blah, blah.

    Yes sir, pretty sure.

    Gearing is -1/+3 from stock.

My gen r6 has tall gears and high redline though.

I definitely agree, but unless you're making massive input errors, not at your pace (like Paul and I both said, no offense)

WERA is awesome.... Have an '05 tranny on the way from PA, and a long laundry list of parts I'm ordering tomorrow. I will have gaskets up to my ears, oh my.

$125 for a used transmission and $50 in gaskets? A 10 year old bike that I street AND track, and spend most track days wrenching on? All what money? FYI I make $13 an hour and spend every penny on my bike because it is important to me.
