    Re: 2003 sv650 parts & advice :-)

does the radiator leak? I raced mine for parts of 3 years with it practically bent around the frame, it finally gave out rubbing on the fairing. I researched sv rider and Delkovic was supposed to come out with a gen 2 aftermarket radiator for around $150, but alas I needed one quick and paid top dollar for a used one on ebay.If you need calipers or the whole brake system I have it cheap. I bought the bike salvage with 40 miles on it and changed out a lot of stock parts that are perfect, let me know if you need anything

    Depends on the shock.

I have an Ohlins double on my SV and a Penske triple on my 1000RR. I like the additional compression adjustments on the triple.

    Both shocks are super-high quality.

Swapping springs for rider wt isnt expensive.

wouldnt i have to have it revalved as well, along with the stiffer spring?

And make it longer, Too much in parts, around $560 parts and labor for a revalve, spring, shaft and body.

But that's to make it work for the other gen SV, right? You wouldn't have to do all that if you're just changing for rider weight, correct?

Not to get off topic but I looked for months for a used penske for my gen1. I found that they either weren't sprung for my weight or needed a rebuild. Adding to that....they were not bargains to begin with.

In the end I decided that used was not the way to go.... I saved enough money on other used pieces(plastics, master, clipons, etc) that spending for a new shock was worth it.

I called GMD and had my Penske days later. To me it was worth it. Just my .02.

Im just guessing that a spring change is all that's needed for rider wt. but Idk for sure.
On another note, some guy on here is parting out his srad gsxr, including the front end....just saying....

AWbsolutely. I did all the suspension upgrades on my DL650 [street].

When I bought my SV650S I made an appointment with GMD before I'd even picked up the bike. So first time I hit the track, the suspension was perfect, and the cost was very reasonable: less than what I paid on my own for the DL.

Right, 03+ SV's have a shorter shock than the 99-02, and the valving in a Penske is flexible enough to cover the range of spring rates for most riders, 83 lb Supermodels, and Sumo wrestlers not with standing.

so, if a penske has a 425lb spring on it, you could go to a 700lb without revalving? nice

No if it has a #425, you could use springs from #375 to #475. For a #700 you would need different valving.

I think I'm gonna end up just buying a new one at the time my bike goes to gmd. Which by the looks of it will be around feb or so. That'll give me some time to save up a cushion to get what I want done(and done right).

Still looking for stuff like rearsets and clipons. Preferably woodcraft stuff. Used race plastics also.

Good choice on buying new....A gen1 Penske 2 way with remote was listed on SV rider for $315. It needed a rebuild but lasted less than an hour then it was snapped up.....hell I almost bought it as a spare.

I know you needed a gen2 but as we see...when they are listed ...they sell quickly.

It just shortens the throw of the throttle a little. Makes a little difference and is nice to have but I wouldn't make it a priority.
