Wanted for good cause: your un-used mountain bike

What I need:

I'm looking for a FREE mountain bike in good condition. Doesn't have to be perfect, doesn't have to be any specific brand. Just need to be clean and rideable. If you wouldn't ride it, then it's probably not what I'm looking for. The girl who's this bike would go to is 13 yrs old soon going on 14, about 5.2 or 5.3 feet high (yes, she is short) so a smaller mountain bike would be best, maybe your son or daughter's old bike who's been sitting in the garage collecting dust?

Who it will benefit:

My daughter's best friend had to go thru the divorce of her parents last year. They appeared as a very nice family doing well with a beautiful home, etc. Since this happened, everything went down hill for her. Her mom started dating too many guys, is not home often and leaves her daughter alone for way too long. The girl has to fend for herself with cooking, laundry and what not. Her dad kept the family house, which he quickly filled up with a new girlfriend who got pregnant shortly after they met, then his girlfriend's daughter moved in with her boyfriend and she got pregnant too. They took all the bedrooms...leaving no space for his OWN fucking daughter in what was HER home.

"D" then met a boy who was smoking pot, she started smoking too so he would love her. She got into other sorts of issues. Her grades went down. We love this girl. She is very sweet, shy, has always been very well mannered and respectful at our home, etc. She used to do great in school before her parent's divorce. I told my daughter I'd like to try to get "D" to do fun family oriented stuff with us, to get her out of her solitude and try to put her back on the right track. She already left that damn boy she was dating. Her parents will not buy her a bike. I can't afford to buy her one, but I want to help her find one she could use. She wanted to come with us yesterday for a ride and she couldn't.

So anyway, I figured I'd start here, doesn't hurt to try. If you have an old mountain bike laying around that is not worth any money (not of any expensive brands), let me know. Thank you.

It may not mean much to most of these guys, but you totally just made my heart swell for a minute - that is so awesome of you!!!!



As a side note if anyone else ever finds themselves in a similar situation, let me know, the recycling center in my town gets lots of bikes this time of year....not all are nice, but sometimes there's a decent one in the mix.

Richard is doing something great here, he already picked a bike up yesterday, and he even found one with her favorite color! I never expected this and I am so greateful. This girl will be so happy. I'm bringing her to pick up the bike so Richard can see the look on her face. She doesn't know, it's a surprise!

Rich, I'm done breaking your balls for sport. That was cool as hell, you are A-OK in my book.

Anyone else in a similar situation, obsolete stole a pretty decent MTB from me. If the cause is right I'll steal it back (mushroom tattoo) and donate it. PM or start new thread for details, dont want to threadjack.

V, hope you have fun w/ your daughters new friend. Also, there are some awesome trails in your area, I used to run them as part of the national mountain bike patrol. You should be able to find them easy peasy, but dont hesitate to call me if you need a hand.

Dan, she's been my oldest daughter's best friend for a few years. She came to our home to cry many times when her parents got divorced. It hasen't been easy for her since. I'm just trying to do something nice for her by involving her in fun activities, hoping to put some soothing balm on her heart. Rich came forward to help a GREAT deal with this.

You can definitely let me know where the trails are! . I have trails in the wood adjacent to my backyard, I heard they go as far as Otis, maybe even further.
