Dirtbike

    Re: Dirtbike

I might do track days on the motard but not racing (at least that's not in the plans).

If I get a woods bike I will most likely dick around. Maybe some racing if I get the funds and time. I know I don't think I'll be competitve but I might end up taking it serious. Right now my level is way below racing.

I say 450 because I think (I could be very wrong) it's a good mix for dirt bike and motard.

As you can I am clueless about all this. That's why I'm having such a hard time committing to anything

Thanks for be advice Joel I am taking in serious consideration what you said.

2 things are important: 1) having fun on and off the street if possible. 2) something I can learn how to do a few things on but not having to fix shit every time I ride.

than any plated dirtbike will do...all of them will be mediocre fun on and off road...plenty capable in the woods...and relatively reliable

also - can't you test ride bikes from any friends you have out there?

I let everyone (that I trust) try the xr100, cr125, dr200, cr80, and yz250...see if you can rally up all the dirty bastard fools @ hodges and crow hill

I personally want to try mcbiggity's bike...only rode 2 kdx's, but they definitely pique my curiosity

    Re: Dirtbike

I think you should buy a DRZ400-SM or WR250X or one of the European <500cc factory sumo's AND whatever these guys suggest for a real dirt bike.

In the short term you could slap some make-pretend dual-sport tires on the 17" sumo rims with the EXPECTATION that the setup will blow off-road.

Edit: Oh, and if you go for the DRZ-SM, hold your line going down the front straight at NHMS at a track day. 'Cause they'll be a parade going past you.

    Re: Dirtbike

Sorry Sav. I've been working on the racebike tonight. C'mon over and see me at the track and I can tell you about my RMZ. I'm not a great MX/trail rider by any stretch. But, I find all of my big bore bikes to be very user-friendly in either environment. Plus, you could convert any to a Sumo.

Yamaha wr250 r/x. I have fallen in love with a motorcycle again. If you can pick one up all you'll have to do is get the other wheel set, depending on if yours comes with street wheels/ tires or the off road setup. I'm new to off road, bike is more than quick enough toget into trouble around town, and it is heavy, but I'm still having a blast off road.

    Re: Dirtbike

My only strike against the WR250 was the price. People want real money for them... although they are probably worth it.

'vas.. the WR250x is fuel injected. I know your love for carbs.

I could be very wrong but I don't think the 250 has enough power for sumo activities I wanna do

When we met up in auburn you saw my size, not a small boy. It has more than enough pep for plenty of fun.

    Re: Dirtbike

you've got commitment issues...and I honestly think you're going to pussy out with the dirt part...nothing personal, and know that most people do too because there aren't a lot of places to ride (unless you have property large enough to ride on), and you have to truck your bike 45 mins to hodges or franklin...and even if you buy one, you'll go on 3 rides in 6 months than park it...and like typeone said, they do require periodic maintenance...

so you should just get the supermoto, ride it on the road, and take it to the track...for the 2-3 times/year you actually ride dirt, just borrow someone else's, or get a $300 RM125 (as long as it runs...also - & do NOT spend money fixing it up)

He doesn't have commitment issues-well, he might he has indecision issues. I can relate.

Savas, you need to start filling that garage with bikes. Get the right tool for the job.
