    Furniture Restoration Recommendation

I have a large, heavy wooden desk with sentimental value. It's the kind of monstrosity you'd see in a 1950's schoolroom for the teacher, I think. It's in pretty decent shape, just the finish/lacquer is worn in places, and it's a lighter color than I'd like.

I think I'd like to have it completely restored: stripped down, some minor sanding/repair, stain and finish. I'd consider some minor updates or changes to the style, too (maybe we do some routering, etc). Would want to discuss it with the craftsman. I am capable of this sort of work but don't want the end product to be so-so.

    - Do you guys know of anyone that would do this sort of work? I guess I'd want a bit of a personal touch.
    - What might something like this cost?

    Thanks

    Hey Chris,

There is a guy (Adam) in Chesterfield NH. His specialty is refurbishing vintage/anything made with wood. We've had him do a few pieces of furniture and consider him highly recommended.

Thanks! About 2 hours from me but that's not too terrible.

Any idea rough cost for a desk-sized piece? I'm sure it varies but is it $500, $1000, $5000?

Doh, misspelled recommendation in thread title. haha.

We have taken pics and emailed them to him. I would call and speak with him about it. Like anything else, pics may not give the full picture of the amount of work needed to refurb. Your desk. Last time We spoke I liked him because he was a very straight forward guy. YMMV.

    Re: Furniture Restoration Recommendation

Isn't there a guy on Facebook... Mike Reddish (MK Upholstery). Does furniture restoration. Based in Randolph MA. He might be willing to tackle it. I don't have any experience with him. Just seen his name around.
