Kids dirt bike for 8 year old

I got an 8 year old who says he's ready for a dirt bike, and I'm happy to add another bike to the garage! I'm looking for suggestions on bike size (I assume about 100cc at this point?) for him, and if anyone is selling something that will work for him.
I'd prefer a bike that does not have a clutch yet.
    Any help would be appreciated.

if he is average height, a PW80 with a shock extender (raises rear 4") or a CRF110 would be good choices. both bikes are auto-clutch, PW is a 3-speed, CRF 4-speed.

What is this PW80 shock extender of which you speak?

small extension you screw onto the lower end of the shock shaft that gives the bike a ~4" lift in the rear ... eliminates the extreme squat for taller riders. worked mint for us. think i posted a photo here when i first bought the bike thinking i would use it as a yard/pit bike for myself, will try to find.

EDIT: yup, posted a few pics here...

BW or PW80 in Central MA?

Though it has a clutch, I'm sure my brother would be more than happy to sell you my nephew's SSR125 that we bought off of CEO for next to nothin...

It's pretty damn clapped out, though... as expected to be, having been flogged by an 11-13 year old and all of his friends.

We sold our CRF100F for $1,200, without advertising. Friend of a friend heard about it and showed up 30 minutes later with the cash. He had been looking for six months. So you may be looking for a unicorn.

May not be what you are looking for but my kids started on a cheap Razor electric. They don’t need any registration and The Law ignored them. He rode the wheels off the thing. Very rudimentary suspension but has disk brakes and isn’t too fast. Used parts readily available on eBay. He wore out a set of tires.

We upgraded the batteries for lighter weight and longer range.

    https://razor.com/products/electric-...0-dirt-rocket/ $550 online brand new.

We got him a Honda 100 at age 10.

At 8, I'd probably look for CRF70. I sold mine here earlier this year.

That's a great idea, I didn't even consider a cheaper electric bike. Good way to find out if he's really into it without dropping $1K+

Agreed, CRF70 would probably be a good fit at his current size. I'd rather have something on the smaller side for him to learn on. Thanks for the suggestion

We got one for him, and by the end of the summer pretty much the whole neighborhood had them.

Wouldn’t wait long to order, they will no doubt sell out for XMass.

So a little quick research says ride time is an hour-ish and re-charge time is several hours, is that accurate? At that rate he will get one "session" per day, is that gonna be a big let down everytime he wants to ride?

    Smart man

Obviously I wouldn't let anyone on here buy it without knowing EVERYTHING about the thing so they know what they're getting into, but I figured I'd throw it out there.

You could spin that as a positive (for you) as it limits the amount of time they're spending on the bike... unless of course you want them outta your hair for hours on end

Re: Kids dirt bike for 8 year old

Yes, it’s pretty accurate. The kids quickly learn how far/fast they can go.

They will do a legit 20mph so they will spend the first few weeks tearing up and down the street at full throttle. Then begins the towing phase, when they start pulling their friends around in anything with wheels.

Thry will accommodate 48V but we stayed at 36V so more range but not more speed. And even that was after two seasons.

One of the best toys we’ve ever purchased.

Tell me more about this clapped out SSR125. I have a 10 and 13 year old that it could possibly work for. I know a thing or two about wrenching.

I rather he rip up the lawn for hours on end than watch stupid youtube videos of people playing Minecraft.
Its gonna be pretty painful to get him a dirtbike and then say "Wait till spring to ride it"

I'll get more info & shoot ya a PM, but off the top of my head:

Blowing smoke again & prob needs another top end kit (dirt cheap & easy to do)
Think the exhaust needs securing (broken bolt or something)
    Needs a new chain
Rear Seat bolt is gone so it flops around a little
And many other little odds & ends.

Everything can be had for pennies on the dollar, it's just a matter of finding the right parts that work.

Yeah, that was the deal my brother made with my nephew; he gets a dirt bike and never plays Fortnite again. It worked.
