This thread reminds me of oil threads...lots of opinions, little facts, what works for one, may not work for others.

R1 with knobbies and be done with it!

I have a 2004 CRF250X for sale. C-cycle suspension set up for a lighter rider (170lb I think?). Bike needs nothing. Lighter than most 250 playbikes and better suspension. Electric start and kickstart. Also has street title; Ride on the road, ride in the trails. Maybe a little over your budget at $2000 though. It's on CL in the RI section if you want to see pics.

KDX200. Done. There is no other. At least start there. If you want/need more (doubtful), you can sell it and get your money back to start over. I am an old dirt rider. I have owned them all (or most of them). The KDX has no equal. It can be whatever you want it to be. For any adult looking to get started in dirt riding, the KDX is always the only bike I would advise them to start with.

    78hp 2-smoke dirtbike?

excuse me, would anyone like to order 78hp of death?

reading youtube comments, turns out there are other 700cc 2-smoke bikes...they're used for sidecarcross

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VfMsbidaxk

^ a bit hilarious...what better way to bond with your bff then to fly over MX jumps with you friend holding on for dear life on a side car connected to a 80hp 2-stroke?

I'd rock one in a heartbeat! The big problem is they make my KTM seem relatively affordable.

If you've never ridden a big smoker before, you really need to. Even you Diz. With Paul's permission, of course. (Giggles)

+1 Torque comes in at lower RPM and in a controllable way. Great for riding in the woods , but still some grunt when you want it.

I had one. Good bike but the power delivery is just boring.

My current thinking is that I'll pick up a YZ-125, seems like it's a good tool for learning as well as a very friendly bike to service. Great supply of aftermarket and OEM parts available too.
