    Need Penske spring...675lb

Got one? I have 625 to trade if needed, or I'll just buy outright.

Get in touch with Peter Kates. If he's got what you need & can use the one you've got he's very cheap & easy to work with.

yeah, i had called, sounds like a new spring is over a hundred bucks...which is not out of the question, but i wanted to see if i could swap/ or get a cheaper used one first.

    Re: Need Penske spring...675lb

I've found used Ohlins, Eibach & Hyperco 2.25" I.D. shock springs that fit both Ohlins and Penske shocks for around $75 each - delivered. I think trading springs is a much cheaper alternative to spending $100+ for a new spring. When I first starting racing my 1st Gen SV650, I weighed around 165#. Over the past 13 winters, I've struggled to get my weight below 200#. I know my 1st Gen SV650 SuperSport/Instructor bike's rear suspension has been feeling soft lately, so I need to pull that spring to see what it is.

From memory, I believe that 1st Gen SV650 needs around a 650# spring for an 180# rider and 2nd Gen SV650 needs around 525# spring, due to changes in swingarm linkage ratios. (darkduc7 has 625# spring & wants 675#, SwiftTone has 650# spring & wants 600#, Rada has 550# spring - that I might be interested in for my 2nd Gen SV650)

I'm interested to hear what springs racers are using on their particular model race bikes, to see if my baselines are close. TZ250 Ohlins shocks use 5.9" to 6.3" long springs, while the SV650 Penske shock seems to be a better fit with 7" long spring. Motards & Dirt bikes use much longer ~10.5" long springs.

Here are extra 2.25" I.D. shock springs that I'd be interested in either selling outright ($65 each + ~$10 shipping costs) or trading for a spring that someone else has:

    1) Red Eibach 7" long, 375 Lbs/inch
    2) Red Eibach 8" long, 400 Lbs/inch
    3) Red Eibach 7" long, 450 Lbs/inch
    4) Yellow Ohlins 7.5" long, 457 Lbs/inch (Ohlins# 1096-24/80)
    5) Purple Maxton 6" long, 476 Lbs/inch
    6) Blue Hyperco 7" long, 500 Lbs/inch
    7) Red Eibach 8" long, 500 Lbs/inch
    8) Yellow Ohlins 6.9" long, 800 Lbs/inch (Ohlins# 1092-54/140 might be good for Hawk?)

    Re: Need Penske spring...675lb

For reference I am running a 625 on my Gen 2. This was about right when I was 235-240#. But I am thinking 650 would be better as my weight has skyrocketed to 265 without gear.

A hawk has no linkage. It needs around a 1400# spring for racing/track.
