    Ruger 10/22 Stainless

I just joined MA Rifle Association and want a tack driver .22 that I can customize. A quick Google search suggested the 10/22 was the 5.0 Mustang of the .22 auto loader world so I'm in. Looking for a stainless target model, but might be interested in another stainless model if the price is right.

Is yours stock? I was initially looking at the bull barrel target model but the reviews said the accuracy was only marginally better than the standard taper barrels and the trigger still needed work so I figure I'll build one. Dick's has them on sale this week.

    Re: Ruger 10/22 Stainless

    I have the takedown model.

I put these sights on it, Ruger® 10/22 Rifle - adjustable aperture sights, swapped the bolt release and put in a Volquartsen 2.5 lb trigger.

It's capable of hitting a 6" plate at 100 yds with irons all day long.

I think you're fairly local to me. You're welcome to try it out if you'd like.

What's a 10/22 Stainless going for at Dicks? Been interested in picking one up myself.

    Re: Ruger 10/22 Stainless

check here and keep an eye out in the for sale section...i shot my buddy's scoped 10/22 and i liked it a lot...i would be buying one but i have to see if i can shoot this remington nylon 66 i inherited accurately and have it stay accurate after i just scoped it...but savage, marlin, cz, browning and mossberg have nice 22 rifles but the 10/22 would be my choice after i did some research from people with more experience than me...

    Re: Ruger 10/22 Stainless

Those Remington Nylon 66s are starting to fetch some good money.

Who would have thought that a plastic POS would be worth $500+ after all these years.

I can't really give too many opinions on the 10/22. Mostly because I could fill up multiple pages with all of the possibilities. I own 4 of them (kinda). One take-down, One, stock, target model with the factory Butler Creek fluted heavy barrel... (and here comes the kindas)... One Magnum Research custom (no Ruger parts) in a Hogue Overmold stock. And one Volquartzen Custom (again, no Ruger parts) Ultralight in a Revolution laminated, thumb hole stock. Both the M/R and the Volquartzen are aluminum receiver/carbon fiber barrel models. These are not home built customs, but rather factory guns from each respective manufacturer. To show you how wild you can go... the Volquartzen was a $1600 "10/22".

The Volquartzen is hands down the best shooter of the bunch.

#5 should be able to come home in a few months. I bought an integrally suppressed Yankee Hill Machine 10/22 a few months back. This is a stock Ruger 10/22, in a black Hogue Overmost Stock, fitted with a Yankee Hill Machine integrally suppressed barrel. Just waiting for the tax stamp to come through so that she can come home. A Kidd trigger, bolt, charging handle, and mag release have already been installed. Its sitting in the safe at the gun store I work for, so I can monkey with it even though I don't technically own it yet.

If you're looking for upgrades... Magnum Research makes a bunch of budget friendly accessories. Volquartzen and Kidd are the kings of high-end 10/22 hop up parts.

check out those three websites to go a decent handle on what you'll dump into a stock 10/22 if you decide to do some customizing. And if you decide to go wild, but the cheapest, used, 10/22 you can find, since you're going to throw most of it out anyway. The only thing you'll retain is the receiver if you do a full build. OR... build it yourself from scratch by starting with a nice Magnum Research or Volquartzen receiver and make it your own...

If they're $300 at Dicks definitely give Four Seasons a call. They just got a boatload in and usually whore out 10/22's.

i read that...this one is a common color and pretty beat up so it probably isn't worth much...from what i've read they seem to be very reliable, they don't need to be cleaned much but they have accuracy problems sometimes due to the plastic body and metal barrel...that is still tbd on this one...if it ends up being accurate i probably won't bother buying a 10/22 and i will need to buy a spee-d-loader to make loading faster...dropping 14 rounds into the stock is slow when i'm watching my buddy next to me pop another mag into his 10/22

$269.99 this week ($50 off) for the stainless with the Kryptec Typhoon camo stock. Standard barrel taper.

I called and the stainless/stainless and plastic stock is $229. For that price I'm in. Now I need to find a barrel and stock.

Want to recommend a fluted SS barrel and pretty stock? I like the look of the OEM target stock and don't want a thumbhole. I don't need to spend Kidd money on a barrel.

    Re: Ruger 10/22 Stainless

The barrel isn't aftermarket. It came stock on the 10/22. It was some sort of limited edition run. Four Seasons had one in stock when I was in there back in the day. I was like hmmm i'll take one of those please. The barrel and receiver are the only things left that are stock. Everything else has been switched out for higher quality parts.

    Re: Ruger 10/22 Stainless

    Love this thing. And it's a very reasonable price for a carbon barrel;

Magnum Research .22LR Magnum Lite Graphite Barrel - Style # ABAR1022, MRI Shop / Barrels

Here's a pretty cool Stanless Fluited barrel that's a good deal:

    10/22 Target Barrel, SS : RUGER® 10/22® TARGET BARRELS | Brownells

Fuck it... Here's the Tactical Solutions online catalog. They have a nice selection of reasonably priced 10/22 accessories. Lots of barrel options, and stocks too:

    http://static.squarespace.com/static...14-catalog.pdf

And here's the Revolution site. Very nice laminated stocks. Fit is excellent. Just drop in your barreled action:

Aftermarket Stocks for Ruger 10/22 - Aftermarket Ruger Stocks - Aftermarket Stocks for Marlin Rifles - Aftermarket Stocks for Remington Rifles - Revolution Stocks - Keystone Sporting Arms

I have 4... and I'm waiting for the tax stamp on #5...

    You're fine.

A couple of years ago, I lost my mind over a super clean S&W Model 27 with a 5" barrel (rare), that came into my store on consignment.

I already had a few of them in my Smith revolver collection. I knew I had a 4", a 6", and a 7 5/8". I spent all the money for this beautifully clean 5".

Got home, opened the safe to find her a home with the others, and found the 5", in the original box, sitting there staring at me. Doh! Duplicate...
