2k for a track set up seems a little low. I just saw a nice set up for about 3.7-3.9k?

When it comes to track bikes, its very easy to get lured into buying cheap and then having to pour a ton of money into it OP.

    Re: SV650 Track Bike

Petorius was trying to give his away for over a month.
Spend a bit more and you won’t regret it. Mark Reynolds is selling his for $3700. Solid bike that is 100% turn key and will last a long time.
Ultimately we all just ignored your budget and sorry about that but it all comes from experience. The extra $1000/1500 in this case will make a massive difference. You can certainly luck out but if you didn’t snag Petorius’ bike idk if you will get another deal like that and/or how serious you are as a buyer in this case.

    Re: SV650 Track Bike

I have a 2006 track/street/clear title/low mileage with tons of extras and upgrades that I might list in the spring but I’d rather roast marshmallows on its pyre than let it go for 2,000. You can probably find non titled ones for less than mine will be listed for, if it will be strictly US track use. Even as a track bike, if you want to ride Canadian tracks, you need a title.

I'd be willing to pay around 3K for a bike that was worth it, I just don't want to pay too much for a bike that I will wreck while gaining experience.

Makes sense and no harm in trying to find the best deal you can. It’s true that occasional ridiculously good deals for buyers pop up, especially this time of year. One of the reasons the SV is so popular is that the damage to your wallet if/when you do go down is minimal compared to other bikes, both because they don’t have exotic factory parts to begin with, and spare parts are as plentiful as for any bike (or more).

I’m on the fence if I’m going to let mine go, but if I do it’ll be posted up here in the spring. One of the reasons I’m not that psyched about letting it go is that even if I decide to hang up track riding, I still find it fun to ride on the street...in large part because of the setup and confidence I have from track riding it. Good luck finding one, it’s a wise choice of bike for getting into track riding.

I'll sell anything I own if the price is right. Your choice between a 2006 600rr race bike and a 2004 SV650 race bike. $4000 takes either of them... both of them are done and ready to race.
Plastics, suspension, quickshifter, rear sets etc etc etc. Again, the price has to be right for me to sell them, but yes... I'm thinking about selling

    Re: SV650 Track Bike

Is it possible to get a quick list of the main things you have done to it and get a few pictures of the sv and does it have a title...etc? I know my original post said around 2k but I do not have a problem paying more since the consensus is that it will get me a much better quality bike.

no offence but looks like you are gonna spend at least another 1000-1500 minimum to finish getting that converted over to pure track duty. thats a bare SV that had bodywork tossed on it for trackdays from the look of it. rearsets levers etc are still all stock. highly recommend having the front end refreshed and get a decent shock for the rear. woodcraft rearsets, key eliminator, lose the L side control pod and get short levers and new brake pads all around. and throw a K&N filter on it with a decent slip on at least and get it over to Scotty at SVM for a dyno tune and gtg. Two brothers slip on, on it. Parts are cheap and why do you “need” a key eliminator! Maybe you like spending money when you don’t need to? It says wanted track bike not wanted race bike. Rear sets and a steering damper to start and look for cheap suspension in time

    Re: SV650 Track Bike

I would say any first step in a sv track bike is suspension. Stock suspension is so weak i wouldnt even try. Second would be rear sets and then so forth. Steering damper is pretty low on there as you wont really need it untill you have built up some time and speed with the bike.

I clearly remember when I needed a damper, coming out of the bowl front end got super light big wiggle, next round I had one lol.

    Re: SV650 Track Bike

+1 Mine came to me with the damper. Someone smarter than I set it up to their taste in the garages and I just ran the damned thing. One day I heard "you don't need that" one too many times. I dialed the thing way back and went out on track. Somewhere around T8 the front did things I did not like. IMO the damper is one of those safer than sorry things. Can a good rider ride around not having one? Definitely. Would I have fubared myself without one? Likely.

I now want one on my dirt bike.. my SM.. my street bike.. Evarehwhere!
