Tree Stand Attachment (for free or loan?)

    for powerstands stand.

Attempt #1 at getting my forks off resulted in the (not so) shocking realization that:

Fork Stands + Trying to change fork stuff = Epic Fail.

We have power stands, but need a tree attachment. Anyone got one they want to give/loan me so I can make my bike slightly better than a pogo stick?

If you have frame sliders you can put jack stands under them an then pull the front stand, that's how I do my forks

It's an SV, with no frame sliders. Fairing mounts might work, but they are awfully high. We have already tried a multitude of "experiments" and the best result we got was the bike ratchet strapped to a bunch of shit and landing on my thumb.

BTW, bikes are really heavy when they land on your thumb.

Rob was about one step away from hanging it from the ceiling, but I would rather do it the right way, especially if his way might kill me.

Our basement doesn't have rafters. We'd have to drill a hole through the floor joists, and that is not something I'm comfortable with.

Re: Tree Stand Attachment (for free or loan?)

OK, so we found an i hook. Sheppo and Rob win, the bike is now hanging from the ceiling. (well, it actually came down, but that's only cause we ran out of naptime to actually get anything accomplished). I am surprised at how stable it actually is with the rear stand and a strap. The jack int he first pic as now gone, too, since it just seemed to make everything worse.

Thanks for the offer, Greg, but it looks like ghetto-fab is gonna win out once again.

get some cinder blocks and put jackstands on them positioned just under the forward most engine mounts. Lower the front stand onto them. and of course have it on a rear stand first but I assume you already knew to do that.

nevermind looks like you got it

So what's wrong with hanging it from the ceiling? This was my plan for the 'strom.

Apparently nothing....although to my credit the original plan was to drill two holes in the floor joists supporting our kitchen and just kinda letting it dangle. What we ended up with (see the pics) was using the eye hook to support the front, since we can't seem to find anything centered enough to balance side to side while still being far enough front to not tip forward on me. So, it is still on the rear stand, just floating at the front.

Now, I won't have to catch 'er and stop 'er from swinging while I strip 'er naked.

Yeah, I see that. I wouldn't drill through the joist, not for this anyway. But the eye seems mighty reasonable. I've got an engineered joist running through my garage near where I park the bike. My plan B is to lash the rear wheel down somehow. That'll fly with my center stand.

What's with the 2x2? wedged into the triple clamp?

Not a GD thing is centered on that bike, so when it is under load' the tree turns hard left so that just keeps it straight.

Hey, is that a DIY/home-made bead breaker attached to the stud in the background to the left of the front wheel?

Yes... built it but used for instead of pine... no big deal right? Wrong... breaking my first bead the wood snapped (I guess for is slightly less flexible than pine) and sprung back and hit me in the side of the head so hard that I saw stars for about an hour... bought one from HF for like $30 instead:-) /

I'd run at least two eye bolts from different joists, and two straps. Cheap insurance against a smashed oil pan.

And yes, I have a pin style front stand you can use. Little late now though!

    Fart smucker!
Rafter trick gives more space to work on the bike though.

I have a plan to lash down the rear end. Won't work for you non center-stand havin' sport types though.

Yeah, that whole lashing down the rear end is how I narrowly escaped losing my thumbnail. Apparently physics doesn't apply to our rear stand.
