Cliffs:
Currently have a DR650 dual sport, and a 919 street bike. Good all around bikes for my intended usage, but a little boring. Want something with more character with a high grin-inducing factor, for <$6k.
All those bikes on that non-inclusive list I've seen within that budget range, granted older models (Super Duke 990, Hyper/Monster 1100/796/821, etc)
That Rivale 800 is sexy and would definitely fit the bill. But it is at the top end of my budget, and not sure on dealers nearby.
Put a few miles on a friend's FZ09, it was the first year, with really choppy throttle response and poor suspension. Wouldn't rule one out for a killer deal though.
Have a friend with a Super Duke 990 he offered to let me take for a spin. His isn't for sale, but he loves it.
Had a couple leads sent to me so far- couple Duke 690's, a 950SM, couple Street Triples, etc. Will send a couple PM's on here.

For the 690 Dukes see if you can locate a 2008-2011. That gen has Marchesini’s, Brembo brakes, and fully adjustable suspension. They’re also EFI where older models are carbureted. This is also the first gen with 6 speed an slipper clutch. It’s down a few horsepower on newer models but are kitted out better.
I went to MMI I know what Im doing here chief
Do you want something fun that you can actually experience the fun without going to jail or does that not enter the equation?
I would go for a somewhat comfortable riding position that you can utilize what makes the bike fun on the street. Uncomfortable but fun in a stable of bikes leads to another bike being chosen because who wants to be uncomfortable when you can be comfortable instead.
Grin inducing horsepower can get you in trouble when ripping three gears puts you well into triple digits.
That being said smaller displacement bikes are more capable of ripping through 3 gears and not reaching arrestable speeds. Don't want to go too small though as no torque can be a downer as well.
KTM 790R, Husqvarna 701SM, KTM690 variants, Ducati street fighter
Upright bikes that can be relatively comfortable with enough power to be fun but not so much as to get you arrested any time you try to use it.
Everyone I know that has one, had one or has borrowed/ridden someone else's has a grin on their face that they can't get rid of for quite some time when they get off the bike

My 2016 GSX-R750 has some cracked fairing panels I’m replacing but is otherwise in great shape mechanically. Suspension upgrades ($$$) from Kates. Wonderful bike but I’m done with track days.
It’s not on your list but man will it cook.
Is the 919 really that vanilla?

Have you owned a Honda VFR yet? I highly recommend the experience. Relatively dirt cheap. Get one with the gear driven cams.
I have a 2005 Triumph Speed Four that is up for sale. Not sure how well this would hit your marks, but price would be good at the bottom end of your range.
Similar style to a Speed Triple, except with an inline four. It has a LSL handlebar set-up for daily riding comfort and hooligan stuff but, if feeling sporty you can go back to the clip-on arrangement. It also comes with a removable rear rack that you could use with a top case. Fully adjustable suspension front and rear which was rare for a bike in the price range it was when sold new. I've used mainly on the street but have also tracked it and it handles well.

'08 690 Duke in GA could be a nice bike. Enough mileage to show it's been ridden, not enough to be clapped out.
I really like these 690's. This has strong big-boy motard track toy vibes for me. Flat 50 ft lb torque curve weighing sub 350 wet. Bookmarking to see if it lasts in inventory for a while and they want to deal![]()

If a VFR is a possibility, why not my ZRX1200? ... other than the fact you already said no. Great ergos, even for an old guy like me. Many extras and upgrades, ready to ride, title in hand, etc. Some small cosmetic challenges. New this year: tires, battery, etc. Thinking $4200 with the new Ohlins currently on it, or $3200 with original OEM shocks, in your price range. Could go full James Compton and track it, too.

A Superhawk might fit your needs. They are cheap enough now and the ergonomics aren't bad but, if the bike doesn't fit your ergonomics, just replace the bars with Heli-bars.
Nah, I’m done with sportbike ergonomics on the street (and probably on the track too). Even a VFR with helibars is too aggressive. Shit I put a taller bar on my 919.
I’m about this close to making an offer on a Superduke 990. But on the other hand, I’m wondering if I might find more options or a better deal over the winter.

Relatively local & a fire breathing weapon for the streets
Lol, I did see that one late last night, good looking out!
I did make an offer on a standard SD990 last week, he was checking into how much he owed, hasn’t gotten back to me yet.
From my research the R is considerably more track-focused, so the std is arguably a better street bike, dunno.
