WTB: parts to build my sv for the track

to start, i need to address:

    (this is all for a 2000 sv650)
    right side vortex rearset
maybe tank, mines dented to shit, but functional
possibly bodywork if i can find decent stuff for cheap. otherwise ill go naked
pod filter kit?? or ill just cut my airbox
both handlebar controls, mine are cracked.
1/4 turn throttle and throttle cables
penske or ohlins rear shock, maybe elka?

ive already gutted a lot of weight...drilling bolts for wire, ordered sliders. the bike has a ducati 996 front end already, so ill just have that refreshed at gmd or something.

what else do you sv guys suggest? looking to make this durable and reasonably quick without going overboard on price. im gonna do trackdays and possibly race it if i have the time/money next season...

    whatcha guys got?

Rear wheel and supersport tail here (thread title didn't update when I added the other items).

I have the first gen diagram (I think). What's your email address and I'll send it over.

    Wirelessly posted (HTC EVO "DROID" : Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.2; en-us; Sprint APA9292KT Build/FRF91) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

Are you any good with electrical? Making keyless start is pretty easy.
You can just figure out what 2-3 wires are needed to light the fire and hook them to a toggle switch, or if you are feeling adventurous you can rig it to the kill switch.
I really would bother with pods unless you're gonna run flat slides. Drilling out the box makes no sense either. Just get a good filter. Get some spaces for the front of the tank as well (gets air in there a little better)
R6 throttle tube for a shorter throw (02?, check svracer)
Since that thing was stunted, I would change the clutch.
Pm me your e mail and ill send you the cam stuff.
Tank isn't necessary, just keep an eye out for a good deal this winter. Argo might have a eBay store still.
Any of the 3 shocks you mentioned will be good. You'll read about shock swaps (gsxr,zx, etc) just do it right the first time.

Re: WTB: parts to build my sv for the track

im not very good electrically, but ill figure it out im sure. ive got everything cut apart, i just havent hooked up any switches yet.

+1 on the airbox thing, im pretty sure im just gonna grab a bmc filter or something and raise the tank a bit. then ill just have to rejet the carbs, and ive already got those apart to clean them anyway. i think theres some good baseline jetting info on svrider..?

not sure the extent to which it was stunted...or if the guy just dented the tank thinking he was a "stunter". either way, i think im just gonna see how she runs in the spring before i change the clutch. youre right though, it might be shagged.

my biggest purchase is gonna be the rear shock...i think im going penske. ill have the forks refreshed locally i think. ive got hh pads coming, sliders, new bar controls since the old ones were cracked all to hell, and i think i might be picking up bodywork and a tank from mauro749...not sure. ive gotta address a tach, and a fairing stay. im gonna check the valves while im at it as well...everythings apart anyway.

oh, tires too. anyone that has decent takeoffs, im your man!

thanks again oxx for taking a look at it that day.

Re: WTB: parts to build my sv for the track

    R6 Throttle Tube - Yamaha PN 5SL-26240-01-00

Comes with a grip pre-installed, is a big improvement over the SV throttle for track use.

And I agree with SV on not doing a pod conversion. Tossing the airbox for pods may net you a pony or two on top, but you'll loose a ton of midrange. If you really want to improve the breathing consider a tank swap to something that has a bigger cavity underneath, then do some fiberglass work so you can use the tank as the top of the box which will crank up the volume of your airbox. Tada, gains across the board. I've seen setups for doing ram air into SV air boxes if you're really up for spending money but I don't think they'd do much at NHMS.

Ya, if you're gonna be in there checking clearances you could do cams too.
2nd gen intake cams will probably run ya <$200

I know it doesn't have to be said but..... eBay. I'm also adding parts to my track SV and shop eBay and the WERA boards daily.

    Some bargains I got;

Woodcraft clipons with extra tube $50!
GPR V1 dampner with SV mounts $185!
And one of my best buys was an Autometer procycle 14k tach with mounting bracket for $40!

Patience is key as is visiting the sites daily. WERA boards are an hourly search for me when I'm looming for parts.

a couple reasons. the key was bent to shit. igition was pretty sticky.

and...im fucking retarded when it comes to remembering stuff, like when i forgot my key to my f2 this past summer. drilling out that freaking bulletproof honda gascap before tech and spending 95 bucks on a vortex after was a serious pita.

so, 1.95 for a toggle switch, an a little confusion cutting wires, and 30 bucks for a gas cap online...all i need to remember is the bike, leathers, helmet and boots.
